This American Pizza chain just opened a franchise- “first outside USA”- in Rathmines, few minutes walk from here. Got the menu from flier boy and didn’t give much attention and headed to pub and McDonald’s for drinks and grub. But the whole thing actually seems quite interesting: good menu and Irish micro brewery beers on tap. Have our American friends experience of this particular pizza restaurant? Or is this concept evil like Starbuck’s?
Huh, I’ve never heard of it, and I’ve lived all over the country (Northeast, South, Midwest, West, “Florida”–it gets it’s own category).
Kind of mixed with respect to pizza chains Allan. Hard to get quite as passionate about pizza as I do coffee. Some are most definitely evil though! Little Ceasars and Dominoes come to my mind right off. Little more than round cardboard with tomato sauce and little pieces of that wily beast, the greaselet. Have not come across Extreme Pizza, is that the name? Give it a go and tell us what you think.
They claim to have won “best pizza” awards in Seattle, SanDiego, Long Beach and San Francisco. Seems to be a West Coast-based chain. I have nothing against international brands and chains per se, just the evil ones. Actually would love to have Carrefour, French food store and Leclerc, French Wal-Mart with style, here. I’ll definitely test Extreme Pizza just to have local microbrews if anything else, it’s good thing somebody actually serves them at a licensed venue. They have Galway Hooker Ale on tap. Cool name, isn’t it?
Well that got me curious. Appears to be one about 20 miles or so north of where I work. The store locater on their website shows the one in Dublin as well. Odd franchising progression. West Coast of the US and Ireland.
Ireland is a gateway to New England so it makes sense.
@Allen H I’m in San Diego, never seen Extreme Pizza. I’ll have to check it out. Now I’m in the mood for Pizza.
ok I looked it up, we have 3 in San Diego. Not in my General area, so that’s why I’ve not seen it. Here’s their URL http://www.extremepizza.com/ Looks like a really hood place.
I wish somebody would rescue an old theatre organ and build a pizzeria like Organ Stop (Mesa, AZ) here in Michigan! I’d go; I think it’s a great concept that hasn’t been done enough. Eat a big greasy pie, pitcher of beer, listen to an old WurliTzer or Barton. They’re wonderful instruments that most people (unless you’re 90 years old, or a 32-year-old nerd like me) have never experienced. Unfortunately, I’ve never been to one of these pizzerias myself; I think the nearest one to me was way the hell out in Wisconsin and it went bust years ago…
I was thinking Extreme Pizza’s first expansion eastwards here in Dublin: seems they decided to skip Dust Bowl, Bible Belt, Rust belt, Tea Party and all other trouble on the way and go where business is!
I’ve been seeing a lot off press about another franchise, Pizza Fusion. The food is supposed to be organic and the business uses green practices. Their delivery cars are those little Mercedes “smart” cars. A great idea, imo, I just wonder if all this environmentally friendly stuff is just a fad.
Miamimark some of it I’am sure is very trendish and will go by by, some I’am sure will just become mainstream. Such is the rythem of the human herd (yes we are a partialy herd animal in my opnion.)
Now I’ve been there a few times, just for lunch having a very generous slice with drinks and can really recommend their food even now: it’s hearty, filling and reasonably priced. This weekend I’m taking my ladyfriend there for full works and report all greasy details. For pizza enthusiasts their crust might be a small disappointment, it’s rather dry without leopard spots but overall whole food is good nutritional value and choice of spelt crust is a plus. I suppose American franchises have the same policy of serving local brews- I had Galway Hooker Pale Ale- as here, so find your local and enjoy.
OK, all this talk is making me hungry. Thank God for “Pizza Garden” here in St. Augustine. Nothing like a slice of sausage-anchovie w/Old Speckled Hen beer.
I’ve been losing some weight lately, and continue to work on it. However, at a certain point I will snap and drive down to Motor City Brewing Works, where I will sit myself down and have a Godfather Part II (subtitled, A Pizza You Can’t Refuse). Goat cheese, sausage, whole cloves of garlic, red pepper, onions, and olive oil. Molto buono!
I don’t know if such a delicacy is available outside the North of England but i would rather have a chicken parmo than a pizza
for those of you that like to cook, Pilsbury’s Hot roll mix actually makes a wonderful pizza crust. Even though it says rolls, the instructions to make a crust are on the box too. Even though it’s a box, it’s pretty much from scratch. You have to add the flour and yeast and do all the kneading yourself.
