Does snuff have an expiration date? Can it mold? Any worms? Does anyone had such problem?
No. Properly sealed and stored (airtight, away from heat and light) it can last for years. See here: http://ermtony.pbworks.com/w/page/23670787/Snuff%20Storage
@viertel All your snuff is expired. You should not use it. Instead send it to me and for a nominal fee, I shall dispose of it safely. >:)
@Xander, it will be hard, because… i’m nearly out of snuff. i’m waiting for a delivery. but of course you can send me yours so i can check out if they’re alright for sure
tobacco will never rot unless destroyed by mold some windmill snuff should be kept refridged. If you don’t have plans for a large collection just use the snuff up and place your next order before you run out. That reminds me I have some Mississippi in the cooler
… I never actually thought of this one, it usually doesn’t last that long. I’ve got a habit of finishing a tin first before opening another… which kinda makes me use a bit more in order to finish the tin and move on to the next
I’m pretty sure all of my Kailash is ‘out of date’ by the time I get it. Some of the tins have something like ‘consume within 6 months of packing date’ writen on them, and the date is usually between 6 months and a year ago. However, this has not put me off, and the snuff is never in anything but tip top condition. Im guessing the date is there for legal or red tape reasons.
@Koba22 absolutely true you hit the nail right on the head !
I hope fresh kailash is as good as the old stuff! :-bd
I’m really new to snuff so I placed an order for like 8 different snuffs and, well the first thing I do when I try new things is try all of them then worry if they will stay fresh till I can get them all used up. I just feel so compelled to try all of them in one day some times. Oh just read the link @jpsavage. With my little 10g tins I doubt they will go dry. I will have to revisit the matter if I ever choose to do bulk.
What is windmill snuff? I tried to look it up and, all I got was well windmills. Are their certain brands that do only windmill? I remember something about Sharrow doing something with windmills. @basement_shaman.
@igglet @basement_shaman I think he means molens/de kralingse. its a particular brand of dutch snuff, delicious stuff.
Ahh. Should have gotten the windmill reference.
Sharrow only uses a water mill.
No snuff I have had to date has displayed an expiry/use by date though my Gawith and Poschls have what appear to be “lot” codes- which someone may be able to decode to a production date., but I have never had any go bad on me. As an aside my General Portions do have a “Best Before” date but I have never had a bad batch here either.
