Experiences with Toque?

S

786 Okay, so it’s like this.  A few years ago a friend gave me a tin each of Toque Espresso and Toque Chocolate.  He said he didn’t care for them; and I, having tried the Silver Dollar Original and loved it, gladly accepted them.

And they were not good at all.

The “Chocolate” smelled like Roderick may have waved a Tootsie Roll in the general direction of the snuff in order to “scent” it.

The “Espresso” smelled like cardboard.  Not even good cardboard that’s been sitting in the sun and made into a fort when I was a kid; just a factory-cardboard smell.

I was incredulous that these snuffs were made by the same entity who made the superb Silver Dollar Original.  I gave them a go for a couple weeks to make sure that they were really as bad as all that; then, having confirmed that this was so, I threw them into my machinist’s toolbox and forgot about them.

I took them back out recently, and now I can get at least a decent base-tobacco scent from them, which is an improvement.

Have any others experienced this with Toque?  Are these flavors just sub-par, or did my friend just get a couple of bad tins?

Being in England I’ve no idea what a Tootsie Roll smells like. But I’m glad you brought this up because my tin of chocolate smells exactly like Turkish Delight ( ie redolent of rose petals ) chocolate bars. I’m sure I can detect choc too but the rose scent is dominant. Dunno if it’s meant to be like this or I’ve got rose with a choc label. Not bothered either way as it’s still jolly nice, just that I’d like to know. Not tried the espresso so can’t help with that sorry.

I have yet to find a Toque that I don’t like.

I think it might depend on how fresh they are. I have gone through a few toque espresso tins and found that when I order from toque directly the scent as stronger than some of the more obscure ones when ordering from mr snuff. The espresso one I find interesting though. I get coffee with a cream aroma/ nose feel. Heavier in how it sits - hard to explain. But as for the cocolate I had a bullet and it did smell like cocoa. I left the bullet in my bag for almost a year and the scent is very faint now. SP extr however keeps its scent forever in my experience. Try getting as fresh as possible and see if it makes a difference.

786 Thanks to everypony who replied!  @canadiansnuffer, I’ll try that.  Yea, my friend got them via Mr Snuff and not directly from Toque, so that might very well be the deciding factor.  @fj1988, I forgot to mention this, but I too get a floral aroma from the Chocolate; it’s stronger than the chocolate, at least in this tin.  Looks like a direct order to Roderick is in my future.

I haven’t tried the two you mentioned, but I’ve heard a few negative reviews about the Espresso. Give Toque USA Chocolate a try, it’s great.

Love Toque, my friends and I are paying for Rodericks villa in the south of Spain. The chocolate is very good, i like to mix it with raspberry menthol, its a delight for my nose!

I have really liked all the Toque snuff I have tried and now use it almost exclusively. The USA Whiskey and Honey is outstanding.

I wish the scents lasted a little longer, because they have some of my favorites.  The USA Lime is a favorite of mine, and the Raspberry smells like real raspberries.  There are many other good ones, but I find myself not using them as often because I know the scent won’t last very long.  On the other hand, if I’m having a snuff session and am taking some every 15 min, this is a good thing.

Like mostly everyone I really enjoy the USA Whiskey and Honey, also the Rustica.Toque never let me down yet.

The Espresso I got 3 or 4 years ago was worse than cardboard but who knows how long it was sitting in a warehouse somewhere in Ireland .

I hear he had changed the espresso since and made it a cappuccino or latte flavor.

I have some of that chocolate and it is still good .I had bottled it up right off.I also was gifted some toques that were opened and there was a chocolate in the lot that had went south. I think it had been aired out too long. There also was a grapefruit in the lot that lost its zing ,I compared  it to the little I have and mine was still great. Fresh snuff is its true representation it is best preserved in airtight glass jars. Toque tins are good if you use it in a month or two but opening and closing every pinch the snuff gets plenty of air time. It always best to decant and fill a snuff box with a couple days worth. Your milage may vary.  I am happy with all the flavors I have and are willing to try more.

Toque generally is very easy to take when it is fresh. Make sure to keep it that way. I’m pretty careful but I’ve had some Quit that dried up a bit. I would change the name to Snakebite, lol
