Have you had this happen? You buy a new snuff to try out only to find you can’t stand it. So you put it away and forget about it, then one day on a whim you try it again and love the stuff! This happen to me with Fribourg & Treyer Princes. At first I thought, good grief this is way over flavoured but when I tried it again months latter I just can’t get enough of it. Love that musk, boy what a classic snuff!
This happened to me with some mentholated types and got used to them in the long run. But most recently I bought a bunch of Toque and found Berwick Brown to be pretty weird tasting. The quality is very high but had to get over my associations with the “classic soapy” almost aftershave scent. I kept coming back to it, in different environments, and now I can appreciate it. In fact I just did some. It’s not necessarily a favorite but I do like it occasionally. But on the other hand, I did buy a tapbox of Sameul Gawith Chocolate and hated it. Put it away twice and came back months later each time, to find I still don’t like it. I haven’t tossed it though.
I can’t honestly say I have. But I hated or felt dubious about almost all the FT. I have almost half the range in my fridge, with only a small dent in the Old Paris. I’ve been thinking I should give them another chance. It’s just it’s quite a long way to the fridge.
I am easy I like most snuffs but in rotation I will come across a snuff that give me the WOW factor, I didn’t think that way about it before. could be aging or it could be I changed. It is all good. @JakartaBoy I agree the snuff in the fridge doesn’t get much action. I have a good forgetter and then you have to warm the snuff for best effects.
Frequently, and vice versa. I find different snuffs work better at different times of the year. Some snuffs get more or less appealing dependent upon time of year or weather conditions, whilst others seem good to go all year round. Sometimes I’ll take a pinch of a new snuff and don’t like it, but I’ve learned that sometimes it’s just the wrong time or it needs to sit and mellow for a while. Sometimes I’ll take a pinch of a snuff I’ve enjoyed before and not enjoy it, so it goes back in the drawer till conditions (weather, season, or just my nose) changes. Unfortunately, being a stupid person, I never make a note of which snuffs work well and when, do when revisiting snuffs or trying new ones, it can be a bit of a lottery. All part of the exploration of the world of snuff though
@basement_shaman, after losing three tins of SWS to mould, I keep them in the fridge, or at least the moist ones. But like you say, I fill up a little stainless steel flask and let it sit in my pocket for a while to warm up. Also the moist Abraxas.
Yes! several: F&T Morlaix (the scenting agents seem to be a trade secret), similarly F&T JR Justice which is 1/2 Morlaix Touque Berwick Brown which I viewed as a “lesser” version of F&T Kendal Brown but now prefer. Viking Blond it seemed almost scentless when I first tried it but now it has a light savory biscuit-like scent that I would attribute to tin aging.
Yes, there have been a few that I considered tossing out but instead of dumping them I set them aside to try again at a later date. Sometimes your taster is off for whatever reason. Waste not, want not.
Outcast of my collection, but still save for hunting season. Ganga and Roses of attar.
Got some McChrystal’s Raspberry some months ago. This was my reaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdEQmpVIE4A However, I just took a pinch and realised how awesome it is. Super sweet and really smooth.
just the other way round.
If you try Copenhagen snuff in the nose, you probably don’t want to try it again.IMO.
