In Germany there is a rumor that the European Union has a plan to ban all smokeless tobacco products or at least ingredients like menthol within the whole union. Poschl is already protesting about these plans (You know most Poschl products are strongly mentholated). Is there a similar discussion outside Germany and what do you think will be the impact of all that to my beloved English snuffs?
EU leaders are nothing but pack of shitheads…they make a mountain out of a molehill…
It has just been announced that the EU has won the Nobel Peace Prize - what a joke. If they ban smokeless tobacco - particularly nasal snuff - it will be at the behest of the multinational pharmaceutical companies. If people can purchase snuff cheaply and use that to get off cigs then it damages the sale of their expensive stop smoking products. One of us needs to win the Euro Lottery and buy up all the European snuff manufacturers and mills. Then we would be producing snuff for private use - albeit in massive quantities - which we could then “gift” or “swap” with other users. Since it would all be private the EU could - expletive deleted. :)) Maybe the EU should focus on the state of the economy rather than interfering in our private lives.
I hope that all that ridiculous circus called EU will fall before they realize another stupid things… ~:>
I imagine if anything they’ll have to make exceptions. p.s. the link doesn’t work.
I think the link should be http://velvetgloveironfist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/tobacco-product-directive-leaked-to.html It makes interesting reading.
Thanks @chris
@bob exeptions seems likely but only if individual member states have a mind to lobby for them. Link fixed.
yeah! better not happen going through with this shit.
Nothing much on the smokeless council site. I saw this thing a few weeks ago and couldn’t find anything concrete. http://www.estoc.org/
If anyone can find this leaked draft EUTPD document online it would be useful, it is much discussed but I cannot find a copy so far.
it’s pretty easy to say you have anything. For example if they try this snuffster pet dragon (actual lizard of large large size that breathes fire) will ruin their day (by poop on their lawn) see you can claim to have anything.
Indeed.
EU ‘Health’ Commissioner John Dalli has just resigned in a corruption scandal involving tobacco directive. Details are quite sketchy yet, but a ‘Maltese businessman’ is involved so it must be really serious! Somehow not so surprising.
Sums the EU up really.
If de regulation is for sale maybe we could have a whip round? "“Mr Dalli informed the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso of his decision following an investigation by OLAF, the EU’s antifraud office, into a complaint made in May 2012 by the tobacco producer, Swedish Match. The company alleged that a Maltese entrepreneur had used his contacts with Mr Dalli to try to gain financial advantages from the company in return for seeking to influence a possible future legislative proposal on tobacco products, in particular on the EU export ban on snus. As soon as the Commission received the complaint it immediately requested OLAF to investigate. The OLAF final report was sent to the Commission on 15 October. It found that the Maltese entrepreneur had approached the company using his contacts with Mr Dalli and sought to gain financial advantages in exchange for influence over a possible future legislative proposal on snus. No transaction was concluded between the company and the entrepreneur and no payment was made. The OLAF report did not find any conclusive evidence of the direct participation of Mr Dalli but did consider that he was aware of these events.”
not a political comment but some people getting shot isn’t sad.
You can’t make this stuff up…sinister Maltese businessmen…corrupt EU officials…bans on snuff…it’s like some sort of Ealing comedy from the 1950s, only this time it’s for real!
@AustinAllegro If only it were a comedy. It would be wonderful to wake up one morning and discover that our involvement with the EU had all been a very bad nightmare.
@Roderick I can think of a few solutions to that problem but they would not be suitable for posting here. :))
Viva la Revolution \\o/ Stefan
Like all empires, the EU will eventually collapse under its own weight and there are signs of this in the problems with Greece and the rest of the PIIGS. An awful lot of damage will have been done before then, however…
This one is devolving. Closed.
