Last Sunday he managed to crock his leg pretty badly and couldn’t make it to the Pub last night. But worse is he is due to holiday. Here’s wishing you a quick recovery Tony, from me and the other snuffers in the St. John’s.
Hope you make a quick turn around, Tony!
@ miamimark I have edited it, sorry my typing fingers must have taken over my brain!
Ouch! Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery, Tony!
Thanks guys. Of course, with my leg in a pot for two weeks I can’t work (or go on holiday) so you’re all going to have to put up with a lot more from me on here instead Now I just need to grovel to a load of customers about how long it’s going to take them to get their orders…
thank god it isn’t too serious. Well try to enjoy it as much as possible.
Sorry you can’t go on holiday, Tony.
Not serious but no fun either. I’ve badly torn the calf muscle in my right leg. They insist I must keep my weight off the leg as well, hence the inability to work. At least there is still snuff!
Sometimes it’s good to have forced downtime. Of course that’s what I tell myself when I’am injured or sick. Well hope the recovery is speedy and good.
A torn calf muscle certainly doesn’t sound like fun. Tony, I heard that Toque SP extra has some wonderful healing properties. It can help you read fast, talk fast, walk fast… Oh, maybe that’s just the nicotine… Oh well, Happy snuffing!
Good to hear its not too serious. Get well soon!
Sorry to hear that Tony hope you’re well soon. Stefan
Very sorry to hear about your injury, Tony - I do hope it heals up soon. Still, more time to update the webpage I suppose - Happy Snuffing!
hey tony this is the perfect excuse to pretend to be into extreme sports. Sports like ninja fighting.
Didn’t Snuff Head post something about placing banana peels all around town?
@ Snuff Head: You’re just going to have to bring the St. John’s ‘gang’ , and the Grolsch, to Tony’s. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Tony. z
@ cstokes4; Tony had the accident near Blackpool, about 140 miles away. Also the bananas we get around here have skins, are the banana peels dangerous?
It was meant in jest, Snuff Head. Sorry if you took offense.

" /> Not at all cstokes4, here’s raising a glass for Tony, and you too.
Indeed, Cheers!
Hmm, I wonder… is the snuff collection mentioned in a will??? Just in case, of course!
Ouch. Get well soon, Tony.
Well… if a will is needed I’m sure Snuff Head can distribute the stash in a suitable manner
LoL! Tony you have seen it, It’s big enough to distribute up my nose in a suitable manner. Others see the pic of me above.
& I can hear well too.
LMAO!
Feel Better ermtony and heal up fast by sniffing a lot of snuff. At least you nose is not broken!
@ cstrokes4; don’t laugh at ermtony’s problem:-
Get well soon, Tony!
Feel better, Tony!
Hope you get better soon Tony.
Good recovery Tony
Sorry to hear that Tony, hope you recovery quickly.
Tony, very sorry for your mishap, though having you spend your healing time on snuffhouse will be a pleasure for us. Get snuff head to bring you some of that beer instead of just toasting you with it (it looks good!)
Thanks guys! Much appreciated. At least I’m getting used to the cast on my leg now, though getting around the house on the crutches is proving tricky, partly because of my arthritis. The bigger frustration is that by now we should have been well on the way to Cornwall to see our elder daughter and her family, including the latest granddaughter who was born in June and who we haven’t seen yet. We should get another chance to make the trip in October anyway. In fact, by now we would have been on the M18 heading south, somewhere near Doncaster. We have planned it for an ETA in Redruth of about 10pm, nicely in time for last orders at the Trefusis Arms… Oh well. Such is life. I’ve just received a letter from the hospital with an appointment time for removal of the cast on the 27th. I can’t wait! As for the beer - my wife has just gone shopping along with instructions as to which beer to bring back I have to say I am so glad we have the National Health Service here. Without it things would have been so much worse. They have been quick, efficient, friendly and so professional. And more important, I don’t get a massive bill or indeed any bill for the work done. I could never afford private health insurance.
Enjoy all this Tony
Wishing you a speedy recovery Tony!
Nice one John! You’re making me thirsty!
Sorry to hear about all this Tony its rotten timing and i hope you recovery quickly. I know its difficult but your just going to have be a good patient and enjoy your snuff and beer at home and allow others to look after you for a while.
Snuff Head I have being laying off the grog this year in a bid to fight the flab but i have to say that is the single most attractive image i have seen in ages.
Thanks Al, but I suspect I’m a lousy patient! I’ve never been one to just sit back and let things happen…
Cool tree snuff head. Did you drink them all?
Not only did he drink them all, but he drank them and then made the tree!
that’s hard to do!
Get well soon mate, God bless, Nigel
Thanks Nigel, and everyone else. It’s getting easier to deal with day by day, thank goodness. Can’t wait for the 27th to get the cast off though!
@ Xander No, that’s Tony’s drink. My drink is Marston’s Old Empier.
Pleased It’s on the mend Tony.
@Snuff Head Marston’s over Samuel Smith?? How could you!? (I’m 3/4ths kidding.)
Many thanks to Mr_Snuffypants for taking the trouble to email my local radio station, BBC Radio Humberside, and getting a get well message read out on air. Link
Oh that’s so nice of Mr_Snuffypants to do that!
You’re very welcome. Hadn’t heard their brek show before. They seem to plug local businesses quite a bit. Maybe they could have something about East Riding Miniatures in the future.
That’s really nice
Hope you’re feeling better Tony. Yes, that was very nice of Mr. Snuffypants and the radio station to think of you. Were you listening when they made the announcement or did you hear about it later? Is the cast itchy? I’ve a friend that had a cast on his arm recently. He kept a piece of electrical wire in the cast and hooked to the edge so it was always handy for quick relief of any itches.
Getting better bit by bit thanks Patrick, but it won’t be until Thursday next week that the cast comes off. And then we’ll see how things are. I missed the announcement on the radio but Bob was kind enough to email me and attach the MP3 of it. I was stunned! Itches, yes, plenty of those!
Very nice
I meet ermtony in the local last night, he’s starting to get out and about. And in good spirits too…
2 empty hands? One should have a pint of beer and the other a pinch of snuff!
Is that a Toque t shirt?
It sure is Beer and snuff were both on the table. That pint glass on the right is probably mine.
Yes! I can see a class of:-
and a 10g tin of Toque.
A knees-up and feet’s up. You look like you’re quickly mending!
I would think right about now your getting a little pissy with it. (meaning your a little aggravated). Hang in there old chap! Don’t over do it either, when the cast comes off. Good luck to you then!
@ Tony, I agree with Juxtaposer. I had operations on both my elbows due to injuries from mountain biking. I also had a hernia operations, also due to a mountain bike mishap. One tends to not listen to the doctors advice about taking it easy after the ops. And then later regret it. So, please take note; it will take a couple of months before your leg will be really healed. It all depends on how you go about in the next couple of weeks. Treat your leg like it’s still in the cast.
Good point and well understood. The problem is that already I have a mountain of orders to tackle the moment I’m back at work… Like Roderick and Tim, I don’t like to keep my customers waiting!
Well… the pot came off my leg yesterday afternoon, and they promptly put another one on Three weeks to go with this one. On the positive side the new pot is weight-bearing so I can get about much more easily and also start catching up on my customers’ orders.
Nice to hear your getting there Tony, but take care.
Good to hear, Tony. I take it you have a “walking cast” on now? 3 weeks will be here and gone before you know it.
Good luck mate, take it easy
Thanks guys!
good to know your’re healing.
You still have the excuse to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.
Update time. The pot is finally off my leg! Feels a bit dodgy still, but that’s to be expected. Now I get a load of physiotherapy at the hospital…
Glad to hear you are onto the next step!
Was keeping my fingers crossed for you Tony, It worked! Very pleased for you, but take care.
Get yourself a cane (walking stick), it looks very gentleman like, goes well with snuff taking and it will support your leg. You can also get a pair of steelrimmed spectacles or pince-nez, grow a droopy moustache and wear a bowler hat to round it off. But, whichever way you do it, take care not to hurt your leg again.
@ Pieter, He has a walking stick already.
True enough, I already have a walking stick thanks to my arthritis, not to mention the varifocal steel rimmed glasses No moustache at the moment though and I could never see me wearing any hat other than my flat cap (being a northerner and all that).
Glad the pot’s off now, Tony - I hope the physio does the trick.
A very good thing to read, it´s getting better. Gute Besserung!
Danke sehr!
Besides, did the Sun Snuffs arrive? I just wonder, cause you haven´t reviewed them or written anything so far…
Sun Snuffs? No, nothing like that has arrived here I take it you sent me some samples?
Oh no… yes, I did. After you wrote you´d give them a try if I sent some samples again, I´ve sent another parcel on its way. Have to see if it can be traced.
Oh dear! Fingers crossed!
That’s great news, ermtony! The physical therapy will probably be pleasant, if they have you in the whirlpool bath, stretching exercises, massages. Would also help with the Arthritis.
Oh yes, it really does. I’ve had that sort of treatment for my arthritis in the past, thanks to the NHS.
And with nurses in the bath with swimsuits, I missing out!
oh there are nurses the problem is their names are steve and bill.
bob, you have just spoilt my dream,
sorry.
Happy for you, tony! Glad you are on the mend.
Thanks. Me too!
Hi Friends on Snuff House. I’m sorry to report another setback for ermtony, he never made it to the pub last night, his son Douglas came and informed me that he was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary that afternoon with DVT (Deep vein thrombosis), I think it is in his other leg. Wish you a quick recovery Tony. And Please slow down.
Oh my. Very sorry to hear that. Mend quickly, Tony. Best Wishes.
I’m really very sorry to hear about this. Tony, all I can do from my side is to pray and that I will certainly do. Take care
Oh my god, I was just about to pack another parcel I´m gonna send him, as all the non-snuff specials for him arrived today. And now this. Sounds very serious. Please, Snuff Head, in case you visit him or get otherwise in contact, send him all the best wishes from his fellow snuff comrades. The world needs fine guys like him. (and the parcel´s on its way now!)
Oh No - poor Tony, after all that he’s in hospital again! John, please wish him the very best from all of us, and a speedy recovery.
@ Chris, Pieter, Michael, Debbie and all on SnuffHouse. I have just a little more news; they did some surgery on his leg and as soon has he came out of the anaesthetic, he asked for his snuff! As soon as he is in a regular ward and I find out the ward via his son Douglas, or his wife Penny then I’ll be round there visiting him (with plenty of snuff) and pass on your messages. John
Well that’s good news!!
Good news at least. Best wishes, Tony.
Asking for snuff is a good sign. DVT is scary stuff. I’m glad the hospital took care of him quickly. Heal fast, Tony.
Ouch! Not good news, but finding it in time was. Send my best to Tony when you next see him, John.
Any more news yet, John?
No more news, but we have a saying “No News Is Good News.” His son Douglas has my land-line and mobile numbers and the arraignment was he was to ring me when Tony is in a regular ward. I just rung his home number but his wife Penny must be out. I have his mobile number but although they are relaxing restrictions of there use in hospitals I’m sure it will be switched off. I’ll ring Penny later, and any news I’ll post on this tread. Edit:- Just tried ringing him, his mobile is switched off. John
Thank you John, for caring and for keeping us updated!
Copy of text just received from Tony’s son:- “Hi John, Just to let you know tony is improving. He should be moved to the ward this evening. He will be there for another week yet though most likely. Doug” I text Doug back and said I’m letting you all know on this forum.
Thanks John! I know you will tell him we all love him.
Thanks John! Most likely, they’re keeping him in that long for tests to make sure there aren’t clots forming anywhere else. Then they send you home with a bottle of Plavix. It’s never fun being stuck in Hospital, though.
I made a list of all on here who checked in on this thread and wished Tony well. I went to see him yesterday (Mon 5th.) in hospital, he looked well and in good spirits sat up at the side of his bed in his shorts with a table beside him full of snuff boxes and tins! I offered him a pinch from my half full extra large tin of McC’s O&G he said that’s nice, I must ring Penny and ask her to bring mine. No need I left the O&G with him as I have one full one at home as backup. He’ll be in for about a week if he takes things easy, he’s in good hands in that hospital. I’m sure he will be posting on hear soon.
Terrific news, John! That´s just what I needed to read.
Thanks for the update Snuff Head. I’m glad he’s getting better (again). Make sure he follows the doctor’s orders. My mom has DVT and has to keep her legs elevated a lot. It falls to me to remind her sometimes.
Bloody hell poor Tony! If its not one thing then its another. Wish him well from me John. Stefan
Thanks for the good news, John! Was starting to get very worried.
So glad he’s up and snuffing again! I’ve had a terrible couple of days but it’s heartened me to know that Tony’s on the mend. Please send him my best regards again, John.
Thanks for the good news John. A snuffer can’t be snuffed!
@ toffeenose, I’m so sorry you have been unwell too. Get back to your feet soon Debbie.
Glad to hear Tony is doing well. Can’t wait for him to get back on his feet. Hope things go better, Toffee.
It seems like everyone’s under the weather at the moment. Hope you’re feeling better, Debbie!
Thanks, guys - I had a day off yesterday, put my feet up and relaxed with a selection of snuffs and what do you know - I’ve got a spring in my step again!
And I thought I had it rough when my stepson punched the computer screen out. Physical pangs almost always trump mental anguish when it comes to empathy. My sympathies embodied ones.
Just had a text from ermtony, he’s now out of hospital and I bet he will be soon posting on SnuffHouse. Great news Tony, but do take it easy.
Brilliant! They usually advise walking around a bit, not sitting in one position for long. Getting up for a round of Darts in-between Beers at the Pub should sort that particular Doctor’s order. Very glad you’re feeling better Tony!
Hi All! As Snuff Head said, I am home again now, since yesterday afternoon, and I am very pleased to be able to say that I still have both legs. There were no certainties on that one. I was very fortunate to get to the hospital within the necessary four hour window. Any later and I would have lost my left leg, if not more. I have nothing but praise for the surgeon, other doctors and nurses who helped me pull through. It was all complicated by a suspect heart attack while I was in theatre, though they still can’t confirm or deny that one. At least they were happy for me to have my snuff by my beside. I will be back at the hospital regularly for a while for various tests and follow up procedures of course. Many thanks for all your kind wishes. Now I have quite a lot of recuperating to do, so if I am slow responding to emails or whispers, please forgive me. There is quite a backlog to get through. I think the pub should be excellent for the appropriate exercise But maybe not just yet! Thanks again. - Tony
Welcome “home” Tony. I’m very glad to have you back here.
Welcome back Tony !! So glad that you’ve come through this in one piece. Growing old is not for sissies, that I can tell you. Recuperation takes so much longer and aches and pains become part of one’s life. On the other hand, I firmly believe that one is as old as you THINK you are. I’m 40 at present but it might change within the next few minutes. Please take it easy, whatever you do. The only area where you may continue, in fact should continue, as usual is snuffing. Regards Pieter
Good to see you back posting ermtony.
Best wishes for your speedy recovery.
Welcome back, Tony!
Glad to hear things are going well; get better soon!
Glad to see you on here again, Tony. Here’s to wishing you a quick recovery! Cheers!
Welcome back, Tony - take it easy!
Thanks all! I really do appreciate your thoughts. - Tony
Wonderful seeing you back Tony! Not sure what the Doctor says about mixing a pint with Plavix. I was told to abstain from Green Tea of all things when I was on it. Getting up for a stretch and a walk 'round the house is what’s most important, though. After a certain age, it’s vital to keep things moving about. Had my first, second and hopefully my last Coronary, back in 2004. (Complications of Diabetes and a congenital condition they never caught until it was almost too late.) It’s one of those things where survival is the first sign of a good recovery!
