Enchanted Silver

Anyone ever purchased a snuffbox from Enchanted Silver? Although billed as pill boxes, some of them - namely the one I’m linking here - look suspiciously like snuff boxes. Any ideas?

Yes it looks like a proper one, but without seeing the inner hinge and lid edge, you can’t be sure. It looks very much like ones available from a few snuff merchants and silver smiths. This site ptobably sourced it from one of them.

The one in the picture is an Ari.D.Norman box, English silver smiths. Very good snuff box and the only genuine silver snuff still in production that I know of (not counting Regnas ones and one pill box that is good enough to use for snuff) , along with the same model with an engraved lid. Buy with confidence. It will probably leak a slight amount, most new metal boxes do, but that can be solved, if it does, by wrapping in a towel and applying some pressure to squeeze any minor leaks away. Probably cheaper from Norman’s site; they are wholesale but will sell you one if you email.

I contacted Norman’s site. The quote I received was much higher than what I had previously paid for one from a retailer. Some wholesalers protect their retailers by not discounting their items to the general public. The quote for the plain one was $298.00 shipped.

Fair enough, my mistake. Heck of a price.

If it is a Norman box its the cheapest I’ve ever seen. I’ll be ordering one from here soon, its going to be my Abraxas box.

It’s worthy of silver? I’m flattered;)

Let us know how you like it @n9inchnails

I was about to echo the same sentiments

Will do but it will be a couple of weeks before I can order one.

I just ordered one, been wanting a silver snuff box for a while. I’ll post when it arrives; the price seems good and they appear to have a no-problems return policy.

I like my 7 dollar stainless turn tin

@Vito445 I got one of those in my last order from Mr. Snuff and I agree, it’s pretty fantastic. But I want to get a genuine silver box because they’re:

a.) A good investment

b.) Classy

Also, I want to pinch out of it while wearing a top-hat and monocle…like a Sir

Seen that exact picture on e-bayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/190621831324?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D190621831324%26_  contacted the seller( Steve G ).For more pictures asked about the tightness. He responded
Hi, and thanks for your interest. This is actually an item that I’m pre-selling using my supplier’s catalog photo, so unfortunately I don’t have one on hand to provide a different photo. I can say that the box does have the 925 stamp (but not the maker), and the lid will close tightly enough to keep contents from falling out. I don’t know enought about the properties/characteristics of tobacco snuff to know if it will dry out or not in this box”. Then I as him where they are made?Replied " Yes, country of origin is Thailand.".I had purchased something like it from Thailand and the sliver was so thin it dented very easy.So unless you carry a purse to hall it around with you.I would not waste the 90 and buy some antique that has stand the test of time for 200, This is one of my beauties

I guess we’re counting on @Mouse to tell us if these are quality or not then.

Thanks, basement_shaman. Time will tell, but judging from the information you shared I’ll probably be sending it back. I’ll let y’all know when it arrives and I have a chance to check it out.

So if it’s not a Norman box, who are some other retailers that you can buy the boxes from? Or do you have to go directly to them and swallow the wholesale price?

Snuff Store sells Norman snuff boxes

Every time I’ve checked they’ve been out of stock

Whatever you do, don’t buy any purported snuff box that has a ‘useable depth’ - that just means it’s a tiny pill box. I bought one from snuff store - the round one with an engraved head on it - and when it arrived I found it was about the size of my thumb nail - absolutely useless but my fault for not checking the dimensions I suppose, but I still felt ripped off.
