I was just checking Swisher’s website. They list a few snuffs that I have never heard of. They are “Lady’s Choice” and “High Toast.” Has anyone ever heard of them?
Yeah, I’ve heard of them and looked for them. Tom at Nicotinerush has done a good job at narrowing down that list. The one I’d like to see still is the High Toast. Tom?
There was a very similar thread about this very subject, back in 2007. Back then, everyone was looking for stuff like Checkerberry, Strawberry, Three Thistles, etc. Maybe in another 2 years we will find the Lady’s Choice and High Toast.
Sorry guys. I contacted Swisher and was told those are no longer made. Just didn’t sell. Tom
Perhaps we can somehow survive without having tried Lady’s Choice…lol.
I can survive without having tried those two…BUT, if Ladies Choice was still available, I would have bought it just because of the name! It’s a *girl power* thang…
That’s too bad, Tom. That is a fear that I have for all of the US snuffs.
@ zzedo310 - Godammit! I’d’ve loved to have had a tub of snuff called Ladies’ Choice, even if it was horrible! Well, if Spanish Jewel can be resurrected…
Didn’t someone say that Lady’s Choice was the same as Society, just with different labeling for different areas? Keep your eyes peeled folks. Some old stuff may still be sitting on the shelves some old shops. Also, don’t forget ebay! Maybe someone will even find the mystical Bran-dee Snuff.
I think that’s from the old thread. And I believe that they were just speculating, but it very well could be true. Bran-dee snuff? Never heard of it.
Here is a shareholder’s packet from the Culbro company circa 1983. Apparently, they bought Helme back in the 80’s. Listed as a moist snuff is Bran-Dee, but it’s no on the Dry Snuff list. There are quite a few brands that are missing from that list.Culbro
I learned of Bran-dee reading past threads. I thought it was a nasal snuff. I think the article was talking about an ebay auction and I think it fetched a good price. Looked about the size of a Wilson’s tin. I’m too lazy to dig for it now, but try a search on this forum for Bran-dee.
@ cstokes4: can’t get your link to work
New link. It’s the first result.Culbro Search
Mmmm… sounds… disgusting. So it was a “dip” that was labeled a snuff, like Copenhagen Snuff.
Don’t really know. ask Troutstroker. He was the one who posted it originally. Filek also has it on his list of every snuff.
With so many American dry snuffs made, I would think they must sell, and sell well. People must be buying this stuff, or we wouldn’t have so many, so many names, flavors, and companies making them. It’s almost comparable to the many ciggarette brands. So it seems to me, these cans must be selling, or they wouldn’t be so prevalant, available, and so many types. But other than me, and those here, I don’t know anyone that uses it. Tom502
The word ‘snuff’ just means ground tobacco, not necessarily dictated to just ‘nasal’ tobacco. And I have a can of unopened Bran-Dee. I got it for my collection of old tobacco items. I had another that I opened, it wasn’t powder fine but was ground fine enough that it could have been used in either form. But it was old enough without the greatest seal that it was void of all scent. The reason I wanted it was because I really liked the label. So different than what’s out there. A snifter of brandy surrounded by tobacco leaves, I mean come on, who wouldn’t like that. LOL. I wish Rainbow sweet snuff was still available! LOL
Cool stuff, thanks for posting them, Trout. How does that Rainbow taste? The can is pretty neat, very trippy!
Maybe Rainbow tastes like Skittles. Now that I see a better picture of the Bran-dee, it does look more like a Copenhagen size tin. Probably belongs in that category. I’ll wait for Trout to try it and write the review.
Nice find there Trout, I am always impressed with the rare finds you always seem to be able to get your hands on (moroccan jewel, et. al.).
One thing I like about the American scotch snuffs, is their can, and label designs. I did some Garrett Sweet in the mouth yesterday, and it wasn’t bad, very sweet, almost like a mouth of sugar. But so far, my fave, for oral dipping, is Bruton. I am actually starting to crave that. Tom502
I have not seen that BranDee in about 25+ years. I think it was made by the same company that made Royal Danish. It was the first bargain brand that I remember coming out. It seems it was only out for a year or so. I seem to remember that it was like Cope with Kahlua. The grind was not as file as Cope but more like Skoal.
Reviving this thread. I was bored tonight and wandered over to Swisher’s website. On the product list page (not the dry snuff page) they still have Lorillard’s Maccoboy and High Toast listed. Tom maybe you can check with them again since you have contacts there? No mention of Ladies’ Choice except on the front page. I would have tried it, though. According to those medical reports posted a few weeks ago, it was one of the highest in nicotine!
Ha ha sorry guys - I can almost picture Walliams from “Little Britain” walking into an old fashioned Tobacco store asking for it, waving his Victorian umbrella: “Doo’you hav’a Laaaydee’s Snaff?” *LOL* :o))))
I bet they would offer him some Schmalzler…
I do spend a lot of time on the road in the south, where I’m guessing American snuffs would be more prevalent than here in Wisconsin. I’ll start checking around next time I’m down there. Anyone have store names/chains I should look in?
Zonesix wrote: "I’ll start checking around next time I’m down there. Anyone have store names/chains I should look in? " You will find them primarily in Grocery stores. Very few convenient stores or gas stations carry them. To name a few here in SC, there are: Piggly Wiggly (kid you not it’s a real chain), Food Lion, Bi-lo, Ingles, and Kroger. In most store you will find a nice selection (around 10 or so different brands)
I love the Pig. Piggly Wiggly is my favorite grocery store of all time, mainly for the name. Them and Food Lion seem to have the biggest selection. I buy a few tins every time I go to Myrtle Beach.
In NC there is Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Lowes (that’s the main 3 I saw in Wilmington). Lowes had an ok selection as did Food Lion. None of them had anything you can’t get at Nic Rush.
@snifs, kid you not there’s a Piggly Wiggly across the street from me in Wisconsin. I was amused when we first moved here. However mine has no snuff. I checked. They do however stock Days Work plug tobacco which I haven’t seen in a while.
Here in Texas I found a few snuffs in the HEB. I have been on a bit of a scavenger hunt just to see what stores carry snuff. I havent been in there but I know sams club sometimes carries it.
