Hi all,im New to the world of snuff about a month now.just this past few days i have been getting a dry mouth and tongue.my lips also feel tingly.does anyone else get this?am i snuffing too much?any advice would be good many thanks.
I’m not familiar with this for any type of tobacco I use, but everybody is different. The only advice I have is from when I used to snore insanely bad. I would wake up with awful dry mouth, and the only thing that I could find to get rid of it was a diet coke fountain drink. For some reason the can didn’t do it, it had to be the fountain drink. It’s probably just my thing, but it worked. Dry mouth sucks eggs and can do serious damage to your teeth. Also, have you tried Biotene mouthwash? It’s specifically designed for dry mouth.
Hi dogwalla,no not tried anything yet apart from water.dont know where this problems come from its bloody annoying.when i have a a smoke my mouth gets a burning stinging feeling so i have to put cig out after about five puffs.might be my mouth getting used to snuff.ive cut down the smokes from ten down to five now im snuffing.
Are you putting the snuff in your lip like chew?
Hi distaind,no ive never done that.its always up the nose.im still perfecting it and not getting much at the back of my throat now which is better.
probably nothing but maybe you should get it checked out because it sounds like it has the potential to be a minor but reversible condition. Sounds like it may even be partialy blocked saliva glands. Maybe (big maybe). Though try dumping a sugar packet on your tongue and see if that makes your mouth moist again. Just grasping at straws.
Cheers bob,ill try some sweet drinks, ive got plenty of saliva going on it there .mouth seems to sting alot when i have a cigarette so i just have to put it out.thats not a bad i guess.i much prefer the snuff to smoking anyway.
@snuffykib, wishing you loads of luck. I feel fortunate that I have had no similar problems. But I do have to totally agree that snuff is much more pleasant, is less expensive and more socially acceptable. GOOD LUCK
Thanks, stogie,im going to stay off the menthol snuff and stay on the q-snuff Irish coffee for today and see if it improves.not as bad this morning.
If you are only a light smoker, it could be nothing more complicated than mild nicotine poisoning. The nicotine in snuff peaks in the bloodstream more slowly than that from cigarette smoke, so you might be tipping yourself over your own limit. If you only smoked ten cigarettes a day, down to five, and then started using a lot of strong snuff, you could get symptoms like you mention. Sounds like how I felt when I tried my first cigarette.
Thanks snuffster, yes that makes sense.guess im just going to cut back a bit.not been to bad today not snuffed all day, waited till i got home.ill keep this posted see how it is on Friday.
@snuffykib You need to detox, drink lots of water until your urine runs clean, 8 to 10 glasses for a couple of days, If problems persist seek medical attention. Don’t rely on untrained professionals advice when it comes to your health. Make your appointment for Friday if it is gone on Thursday cancel the appointment.
Absolutely right - to the best of my knowledge we have no MDs or MBBSs on here.
Yes thanks, already thought of that .im better today since ive cut back on the snuff.going to see doc on Monday morning if not better by then.
He will tell you to stop taking snuff, be prepared for that. And it is almost certain that he will have no real idea what snuff is or of any of literature.
though you might get lucky. And get a doctor that is actualy aware of snuff and he’ll congrate you on not smoking. Hell I got a doctor who after checking my blood lipid levels and cholesterol told me to keep eating the way I was. Which the levels of bacon I was ingesting at that time could be descriped as heroic. If that can happen you might get lucky.
Loads better today, after cutting back on snuff and using smaller pinches of it dont seem to be suffering from burning mouth anymore.i think i was getting way too much nicotine than my body could handle.
Also the interaction of tobacco and caffeine can be strange and tricky, and caffeine itself takes water out of your body.
Much better now and im drinking gallons of water which you should do anyway.its surprising just how doing that how much better you feel through the day.ive also cut back by half the coffee i was drinking daily aswell.im just trying to stop myself going full steam ahead again with the snuff.it needs some respect you know.lol
Caffine can cause dry mouth not because it takes water out of your body (which is actualy myth, though that’s a recent discovery that caffine is not dehydrating, though it seems that way because you’ll drink it when not thirsty and you’re body will get rid of excessive water pretty quickily). The dry mouth is caused by stress and too much caffine causes stress majorily. In fact that’s the worst thing about caffine. If you’re used to being that caffinated you’ll not even notice the extra stress because it will be normal. Caffine is a pretty potent drug despite it’s reputation.
Without enough caffeine, though, I get massive headaches. I’m addicted to Coke, it’s terrible…
yeah caffine addiction sucks it’s nothing compared to others but still that headache and fuzzy vision equaly no fun.
I’m not wanting to argue here really. Just according to my sources, there are a lot of diuretics in the plant world. They seem to be grouped into two categories, one category removes potassium (sp?), the other removes sodium- I believe this may also be supported by modern research about Chinese medicinal herbs. Coffee or tea removes sodium, when one loses sodium, the body retains less water. Also it may increase respiration/metabolism, but that may not be established. But I suppose there may be new data about this whole thing. I’m saying that this is not a case of modern research against folklore, but modern research against other modern research. But I guess anything’s possible- and lots of stuff has been dis-proven recently.
yeah but with caffine isn’t a diuretic they thought it was but it’s not. It does the same thing as drinking excessive amounts of water which removes sodium. And yeah if too much sodium is released the body needs to get rid of water because the sodium levels won’t be high enough (the ratio will be wrong) which is serious. The thing is the sodium lost from drinking lots of water is also a form of the body keeping the sodium levels proper. Interestingily the reason sodium increases blood pressure is basically that the body increases the blood pressure so that it can get the sodium and water to the kidney to filter out the excess. Although extrememily high levels of caffine are diuretic the same levels of caffine are also over stimulating and extremeily unpleasant to such a degree it’s unlikeily that you will often reach that level of caffination. Yeah the studies showing caffine not to be a diuretic are pretty recent and only possible because it’s only been recentily that the effects of diffrent levels of water consumption have been studied.
Check out bob on the caffeine!awesome.
I’am a fan of caffine it makes you smarter if not more nervous
Of course I’m not calling all recent studies BS. Yes the info that I’m referring to was published a while ago, and maybe it’s more true with coffee than tea. Personally I’m still convinced that there’s something else going on there, maybe it’s the Theobromine in coffee. Especially if you have some interest in traditional medicines, coffee is said to affect the yang (warm aspect) of the kidney, and other herbs which are also kidney yang increasers(?) have been found to increase the potassium and reduce the sodium and are considered diuretic. I’m just still finding these theories plausible if not likely. It sure FEELS like after I get some in my system I have to hit the head much more often. And you obviously know how often medical science changes its mind. But I’ll look up these new studies, if I can find them by googling. At any rate I’m a big fan of caffeine too.
drink water when the same way you drink coffee, you’ll have to pee.
I mean that may be true. But it seems like some kind of effect is still going on, I mean it does impact the adrenal glands, and again, I have heard the kidneys. Supposedly according to a text on macrobiotics, when you have a person with chronic dark circles under the eyes, it signifies a problem with the kidneys- which some link with excessive coffee intake. Maybe it’s not a diuretic in the traditional sense, which I’d never heard before. But I still wouldn’t be surprised if there is some drying effect going on in the body-maybe by the stimulant effect on some of the organs idk. At any rate I don’t mean to be just arguing- and I do consider you one of the brighter noodles in the shed. Some things just make me feel like an issue must be further examined.
Excessive caffine does that. But the thing is although people do use excessive caffine it’s rare. Like when you hit the uncomfortable jittery point then it’s got some pee effects. The the thing is the kidneys although they filter the blood and make urine, they’re not very big on controling how much you pee. That’s the p.p. gland that does that. The posterior putitary gland. Vasopressin is the hurmone that keeps you from peeing, that’s why alcohol makes you pee so much it supresses vasopressin. Neat stuff the body. Then again it’s really important to trust your body for several reason. First science doesn’t know everything and gets proven wrong about stuff (science is all about observable repeatable things), maybe more importantily the body is extremeily complex and individual. Something that typicaly cause something to happen or not happen in a person may in another person. Maybe with other substances like salt or potassium caffine has a diffrent effect. So it’s complex. The thing is your body has a vest interest in keeping you around and healthy.
Over here in the uk i drink alot of tea.and that normally goes through me quicker than coffee for some reason.dont know why that is.my mouth completely better now by the way…and not getting the buzz i used to get when taking snuff that i use to do either.guess im going have to take a bit more.lol
Yes, absolutely, very complex, very interesting. That is some interesting info there. The deal with me is I’m often jittery even before I have any caffeine, and my neurologist-after many tests, couldn’t tell me much about it, I would routinely drink one or two large press pots of coffee before work. I noticed that I would have to go very badly very quickly, and sometimes would have to keep going and going every 5 to 20 minutes until I got it(whatever it was) out of the system. That kind of experience makes it seem like something is happening differently in that part of the system, but yes I s’pose things are not always as they seem. I really like some things about the traditional Chinese medical system, they have an understanding of how the body works as a whole and how one system can or will affect others- seems to me one can learn a lot from it, and much has been scientifically validated about their herbs and stuff. One good tidbit is that a substance in the Chinese(and maybe the European) Liquorice root binds to sugar and can basically substitute for adrenaline, so if you’ve somehow overtaxed the adrenal glands, you can ease your systems recovery by using it.
yeah there is a lot to learn from all medical systems. I mean seriousily even the most backwards places have some good medicine. Just glad that westren medicine is finaly realizing it’s not the only legitimate game in town. The best in all things seems to be taking the best from a variety of systems over picking one and saying that’s the true way.
True. I do have hope that Western medicine can keep learning, especially about herbal medicine, they’ve discovered “new” theraputic (sp?) substances from long used medicinal herbs, digitalis etc. Maybe eventually they will eventually merge to some degree. In Europe it seems fairly common to have valerian, for example, prescribed/recommended. I try to minimize my consumption of synthetic substances- even food preservatives- when I can. Maybe more and more (modern) pharmacuticals will become obsolete as safer herbal remedies are proven. --pardon my spelling here
@snuffykib I drink Holy basil tea instead of coffee first thing in the morning. And a spoon full of Diatomaceous Earth mixed with juice. Eat habanero hot sauce on practicably everything I cook. And at lease three large clove of garlic daily. Then the rest of the day I consume what ever coffee, teas, water, juices, Icey drinks.lemonade. If everything is working to it’s full potential,Mind, body, soul. Then the illness has no hold. When the MBS is worn down, time to recharge. I can’t prescribe anything but if I need to : I would use nettle, echinacea, and zinc. One for allergy and two for immune strength building. Slow up on too much water, it good to flush but you also need to absorb. It all about balance.
