Is there any artisan that is dry and not a toast? I have a wooden box that could use some fine dry snuff. Is Macuba dry? I’ve read conflicting reviews about its dryness. Is Latakia AO 1860 dry enough for a wooden box? Thank you fellow snuffmen!

Try Sir Walter Scott’s Fields of Juniper. Quite possibly the best snuff in the world.

@chalimacos: We have no experience with wooden snuffboxes. As our Macuba is prepared we add cognac and little water. Freshly prepared it will be a little humid. During storage it will loose water by evaporation and becomes dryer. The same holds for our Latakia Ao 1860. Jaap Bes.

You could wax insides and under the lid of your box. I use paragon pipe wax, I hear bees wax works also. Then you can put any snuff in it.

I agree w/ @ snuffmiller. The Macuba is moist, but will dry out quickly in a wooden box. You should try it. Very wonderful scent, not overpowering, and the tobacco is very good. Its one I like to buy in the 100gram tub. Get the small tap box first to see if you like it. And the Latakia 1860 the same. Very nice, on the plain side, good tobacco, you won’t be disappointed.

Abraxus St.Casura would do fine in a waxed wooden snuff box. Also do you consider the Freybourg & Treyer line of snuffs now produced by WIlson’s “artisan”? If so many of these are ideal for a snuff box.

Molens FCV in either grind…perfect for a wooden box in my experience.
