Like me. I have black smashboxes. I went on a short trip over Christmas. I thought taking a little snuff in the smashboxes was a better idea than taking the whole tin, which I knew I wouldn’t use all of. One had Toque Christmas pudding, one had Toque Spanish Gem, NOT LABELED. When I got home I decided to dump the leftovers back in the appropriate tins. This is where I learned that labeling the smashboxes would have been a good idea. My nose lied to me. I dumped about 4 grams of Christmas Pudding into my half full 10 gram tin of Spanish Gem. At least I caught on before dumping the Spanish Gem into the Christmas Pudding. The resulting mixture isn’t to awful, kinda spiced chocolate flavor, but it’s very annoying to ruin my last tin of SG. So please don’t be like me and label your snuffs or don’t return a smashbox to the tin. One’s nose can lie.
Here, here! Labeling is of the utmost importance. One should go as far as listing the contents of bottles and various snuffboxes, mixes etc… Now… to follow my own advice.
If you’ve ever worked in a lab, they do tell you never to pour back into the original container any reagent you have placed in a secondary container to prevent things like this from happening… The Smash Boxes aren’t ***THAT*** big, I guess it won’t take that long to finish what’s inside of them, or not have too many open at once. I am starting to think that I should buy at least one of the smallest container of every kind of snuff I regularly use (IE, the smaller 5-10g size etc) that I would normally buy in large containers to save money. That way I can just reuse it without worrying about having to wash out a smash box or labelling it. With only a handful of smash boxes, I am already running into inventory problems… Thanks for sharing and reminding me!
I rotate through 3-5 snuffs a day and only use maybe 2- 3 grams total. I have a few black smashboxes and a few clear ones which are about 1/2 the size of the black ones. The smaller ones are perfect for toasts and scotches, the bigger ones for short trips or coarser snuffs like Taxi or shcmalzlers. I haven’t had any problems so far but mostly I keep different colors or grinds in them so it’s easy to tell apart. Seems the Toques were to closely related for that to work this time.
