Does Three Thistles exist in the large tin size?

According to the Swisher website, their dry snuffs are available in “4.65 oz. Large Gullet, or our 9.5 oz. Extra Large Gullet.” It doesn’t specify if only some or all of the Swisher snuffs are available in these sizes. Frankly, I have never in my life seen a 9.5 ounce gullet of any snuff, ever, nor does any online vendor offer them. Do these really exist? Anyway, I would be tempted to buy a 4.65 or 9.5 ounce gullet of Three Thistles Strong if I ever saw one. The 9.5 ounce would pretty much set me up for life, I think. I’ve never seen anyone offer even a 4.65 ounce Three Thistles. If anyone can confirm that Three Thistles Strong actually exists in a large tin size, I’d really appreciate it. Oh, and has anyone ever bought a 9.5 ounce gullet of any Swisher snuff? If so, how much did it cost? Thanks!

Also search topic snuff sausages.

Thanks, Juxtaposer. I had somehow missed that thread completely. Sometimes I have the distinct feeling that the only reason American snuffs are still produced is because the corporations that own the mills have no idea that the damn product even exists. They really seem to go out of their way to know nothing about their own products. From what I can gather, no one that works for Conwood, Swisher and/or US Smokeless has the slightest clue about their dry snuffs. Is there any other product that is distributed so haphazardly and confusingly? Even the tobacco shops can’t get clear info from the company reps. Why for instance does Conwood have large tins in both 4.65 and 5.58 ounce sizes? What is the logic in that? I doubt you could even find someone at Conwood who is even aware that these even exist, much less provide an answer. Mind you, most tobacco shops can’t get any of them, even if they keep asking for them. A local tobacco shop owner tried hard to order some Swisher snuffs I requested. Well, the Swisher rep informed him that Swisher only made Navy and that the other Swisher dry snuffs had not been manufactured “in decades.” We all know that isn’t true, but if the Swisher rep doesn’t even know, what does that tell you? Other than the ebay auction mentioned in the “Snuff Sausage” thread, it seems no one has ever actually seen one of these gullets. I don’t care about them, really. I just had never heard of this before, and was curious. I have my doubts that these are made anymore, regardless of what is written on the Swisher webpage. Tom said he is unable to get them, and if he can’t… BTW, I noticed that the photos for Three Thistles at Nicotine Rush do depict both the large and small tin. I don’t know if Tom ever managed to get a large tin of Three Thistles, but it apparently it does or once did exist.

I thought I remembered Tom saying that he could get them, but they’d either be too expensive, or the supply was hit or miss. I’d be interested in getting one, but you’d need an absolutely massive jar to hold them, since there’s no resealing them once you’ve opened one.

@kjoerup, you are 100% right. Conwood’s “production manager” did not know that his company still make Levi Garrett. And he’s been there for 25 years already. No wonder the reps don’t know what’s in the store room.

I know it’s been mentioned in other threads, but considering snuff appears to have an indefinite shelf life when properly stored, I really do sometimes wonder if the American snuff companies just don’t have a big silo of snuff ground back in 19-umpty-ump that they occasionally package and send out…heck, looking at my cardboard/tin lid 1.65 oz. Garrett cans, I would almost say the packages themselves were old, if not for the UPC and the obligatory “this will kill you, etc” warning on them…

I don’t need one now, but the one I could consider buying in the large size can, is RR Mills Checkerberry. If any of you dip, try this snuff, it’s has a great taste.

Three Thistles is my favourite american scotch snuff and i would love to buy this in bulk so if anyone can get it in larger sizes please let us know

@James S.: In a previous thread, I once half-jokingly wrote that W.E. Garrett snuff was last milled in 1902, and they’ve just been tapping the silos ever since. It’s possible that there is more truth to this than we know. @Big Al: I’ve had no luck tracking down a 4.65 ounce tin of Three Thistles. In the end, it’s probably better and more inexpensive to purchase a case (12 x 1.15 ounce tins) anyway.

The big can’s are roughly 5 small cans, and the small cans at $3 something is about what the price of a big can is, so just get 5 small cans. if used only nasally, a big can seems like a life supply, a 12 can case would be eternal. Now if you dump it in your mouth, it will go quicker.

I would buy the swisher strawberry in a large can, I haven’t been able to find that either. I guess buying the case of 12 is just as good.
