I like SPs as an all day snuff and normally take it with me to work in a wooden snuffbox (the Wilsons type). But my impression is that almost all SPs in these wooden box loose their flavour, especially the citrus and bergamit scent and become a little bit “woody”. Meanwhile sometimes I have a tin with Best SP or Toque Original with me in addition and the snuff from the tin is really more tasty. Do others have the same impression?
Just about any snuff will lose flavor in a wooden box. Snuff boxes are meant to hold a days supply, no more no less.
Yes yes, what I mean is this: I fill my wooden snuffbox in the morning with SP. It tasts fresh and has got some nice Bergamot scent. I take the snuffbox with me and in addition the same SP in a Tin. When afternoon comes the SP which is in the Snuffbox has lost some of it’s scent, while the one which stays in the tin tasts as fresh and nicely scented as in the morning. Is it only my impression or is my snuffbox perhaps not in good shape?
Chances are the box is absorbing some of the scent. You would probably get the same results if you were to place the snuff in a container and only put a paper towel over top of it for a day. One thing you can do is take the empty box and leave it in the bathroom while you take a shower, it will tighten up the joints.
Oh, I will try that. Thanks.
Here is a neat trick. Hold your pinch longer before snuffing. This brings out more scent. I think it sweats the powder slightly drawing more of the oils out to the surface (could be wrong about why but not what happens)
Does chewing gum loose it’s flavor on the bedpost overnight?
I’m surprised that you Americans haven’t tried dipping your chewing gum into some snuff. Hedges L260 would be a good start
An old friend of mine used be a catcher for the Red Sox. He showed me a technique that he learned from the old players. Take a big chunk of freshly chewed bubble gum, flatten it out in your palm, then pack it with chewing tobacco and roll it into a ball. You then just slowly suck and chew the wad for quite a long time.
I think it may be more like snuff in a wood box gets an added scent. I have a few boxes that add distinct and delicious flavors to my snuffs, so much so that I now just fill them with plain snuffs.
That’s a good thaught. Perhaps I shoud see the “woody flavour” more positiv.
I like to keep SPs in my wooden snuffbox. It only holds about 3 grams so I use it up before it has time to go bad but the wood changes the flavor in a distinct and pleasant way.
