I’ve always suffered from stuffed sinuses. Been to the DR and they give me Anti-Biotics and the infection goes away than within a week it’s back. Since I started Snuff I’ve noticed that my nose has cleared up apart from occasionally being clogged by Snuff. So the question is has the snuff killed the Bacterial Infection. Anyone else had my experience.

C

From what I can gather, many on here have experienced the same thing. I do not suffer from any sinus issues, so I can’t relate. Tobacco does have some antiseptic properties to it, so maybe that has a part in it.

C

I’ve been snuffing for almost a year now, and I’ve not had so much as a cold. I usually get at least 1-2 colds per winter.

B

If you use alot of menthols, menthol has an anaestetic and antiinflamatory properties. The tobacco would also help to dry up the sinus by moisture absorbtion which would help with stuffyness and post nasal drip. Snuff has entirely cured my PND in a few months of use. I’ve suffered with it for years.

S

You know it’s funny because I remember seeing an old ad posted somewhere on snuffhouse (actually a link to some old snuff stuff) anyway the ad said “Use snuff. It prevents the flu”. I can say that since using snuff my colds and flu have been drastically reduced- while everyone else around me was pretty sick. I’m not saying…but still…I couldn’t help thinking of that ad.

D

I’ve been a snuffer for almost ten years, and I haven’t had a single cold or case of the flu the whole time. Obviously, tobacco is medicinal, just like the herbs they sell at my local Medical Marijuana Dispensary. Btw, marijuana makes a truly terrible snuff.

B

I wonder if it also has something to do with blowing the gunk out of our noses on a regular basis? I am over 40 and have never been able to blow my nose well or completely until I started snuff. I’m sure tobacco kills some bugs, but is it possible that we clean our sinuses out enough to purge the rest of the little nasties?

B

@DustyMustache It does work though. Cakes the nostrils quite badly. I find collecting the kif from the bottom of your grinder and mixing that in with some menthol snuff does the trick.

S

ermtony, That’s it!!! I can’t believe you found it!!! I think a lot of it is that snuff keeps the nose and sinuses dryer and thus less prone to letting infections/viruses get a stronghold.

M

I have had fewer sinus headaches, and those I have when I awaken are gone in a jiffy after taking some snuff, however, I have not seen a reduction in colds, though this is partly because I work around sick people so am exposed at a higher frequency. Snuff is used for pesticide, so I’m sure microbes are harmed by it to some extent. Also, wetting an insect bite and spreading some snuff on and about it, kills the itch.

S

I’ve had 1 sinus infection since I’ve started using snuff. It lasted about 2 days. Normally they last closer to 2 weeks and I have to go to the doctor to get medication.

J

If you “toast” the pot first it will not be as sneezy. Very good 50/50 with snuff. 350" for 5" in a sealed foil does it.

J

Bish777 I agree. DustyMustahce I disagree with you last sentence.

K

Snuff doesn’t kill bacteria, but cheese and bacon might.

B

@ Roderick, modern chemical manufacturers make wonderful anti flea concoctions. No sense in wasting snuff on my dogs.LOL Plus my largest pooch has a thing for bacon, she’d probably OD licking it all the C&B off herself, and I’d look funny snorting snuff off my dog.

K

Coming up this week on 60 Minutes: Evil tobacco companies actually RUB SNUFF ON CHILDREN!

C

Or: “Big tobacco tries to snuff out your pet! Tonight at 11!”

D

@Juxtaposer, hopefully I will stand corrected sometime early this afternoon.

B

Nicotine is a very effective insecticide apparently, so when you catch crabs, pour some on your groin.

Z

FWIW, my wife tends to get a sinus infection every other month. For the last 4, she’s been using O&G with no infections.

B

yes nicotine kills germs and bactaria. This is why snus gives you bad breath. It kills the natural protective bactarias in your mouth which in turn kills other bactarias. I wish I could remember which science journal I read about how many plants are natural bactaria killers. One is cilantro, hence why salmonella rates are lower in countries that use a lot of cilantro in their cooking. Yes nicotine kills infections. If you get a semi bad cut that is bleeding a lot and you can’t wash it imeditaly. Rubbing snuff in the cut will do two things keep it from bleeding as much and keep it clean until you can acctualy wash it out. Though it burns like a mofo comparable to lemon juice (which is used for the same reason of being antiseptic).

I’m somewhat of an amatuer beekeeper ( Black Russians). When I smoked cigs, I could go through the hives and not be bothered. If I did get stung, I’d blow some smoke on the sting so as not to get multiple stings from the scent they leave behind for the others. Now that I don’t smoke, I get dive-bombed more frequently, but I have spit some tobacco juice on a fresh sting and had little, if any swelling. Also, if you ever get a close look at tobacco plants growing, many times you can see some small insects that have either stuck to the leaves or OD’ed…I don’t know which,LOL!. Aphids, maybe. But yes, it can be a death sentence to the little folk. Like alot of the people here, I’ve been untouched by colds, strep throat, fevers, etc, that everyone else got in my house over the Winter.

T

Couldn’t you have a big smoky cigar when you do this?

C

Sounds like you need one of those burlap-smouldering devices, Bart.

B

I do have a smoker that I use more now. Supposedly there is an old German Smoker Pipe, made just for bee-keepers, that allows for hand-free smoking of the bees. Shoots great streams of smoke out the front. Whether it’s an old urban legend or something made years ago, I’m not sure…but would be nice to have. It’s been shown most bee keepers are slightly mentally unstable, so this would add to the persona, hehehe!

J

Not the bee-keeper pipe you are talking about but…:

B

yeah isn’t getting stung fun sometimes? I know if you get enough yellow jackets to sting you the aftermath is fun.

B

No Jari, But that is funny as hell,LOL! A dedicated pipester!! (I have a similar mask I use to approach my bees with a zipper across the mouth…very intimidating and I seem to get stung much less.)

L

Nicotine is actually used in agriculture as insecticide and antiseptic for the plants, so is possible that might have some property of that kind against human bacteria too…

About snus and killing bacteria. Snus changes the acidity in the mouth, making it more non-acid (basic/alcali* in english?). This enviroment is not suitable for many bacteria and some of them will stop working. This is also why snus is good for your teeth. After eating food, the pH of the mouth usually gets more acidic due to bacteria processing carbohydrates (sugar) and stuff like that. Some dentist recommend that you start snusing if you’re in a situation that makes tooth-brushing hard or not on a regulary basis (eg. if you’re in the army).

F

Murarn - Dunno about that. I snus and I’ve just got a pretty bad gum infection so I’m snuffing more and I’ve cut down to 3 Thunder Frosted a day. Until it passes.

M

Frosted - I didn’t say it stopped all bacteria, and I think there are many that can cause gum infection. I was mainly talking about bacteria that causes bad teeth, not overall bacteria activity. And of course, you shouldn’t snus instead of brushing your teeth.

J

But you can brush your teeth while snusing. I saw it on T.V. so it must be true!

B

it can also kill some of the bacteria that is part of your mouths defense against bactaria that does things like causes infections. well off to bed now. with snus in.

My girlfriend had really bad tonsillitis and I drank after her, ate after her and made out with her but I think the drip from me taking snuff prevented me from taking ill. In fact I don’t think I’ve had any throat problems since I’ve started taking snuff regularly. -Kidnapper

The Elephant Man was a brother of the briar as the photograph proves.

During the terrible influenza pandemic in 1918/1919, which was history’s most lethal pandemic, Belfast’s Gallaher recommended people consume their Irish Toast as a preventative measure. The advertisement appearing above was part of the campaign. The claim was made in detail in the Belfast Telegraph, November 1918. As medical opinion recommended sneezing into a handkerchief as often as possible the claim was not without merit. Sales of snuff consequently soared.

P

On the other hand it could be argued that snuff induced sneezing spread the disease.
