Does snuff cause ear aches?

Any of you experience this? I think I got an ear infection and when I Q-tip my ear it looks like the stuff that comes out my nose when I snuff.

Don’t put a Q-tip in your ear then.

@micheltn Thanks for the info! LOL

well there’s a duct that connects your nasal passages with your ears- TAKE IT EASY! You’re probably snuffing too hard! lol

@snuffnpuff … like transistor says, they are linked, but they should also be separated between inner and outer ear (where you would swab with a Q-tip) … you could possibly have a slight tear in the membrane … which is why it might seem as if there is “snuff” in your ear … but certainly a good reason why you might have an ear infection(snuff in the ear). of course, best advice … have an ENT doctor check it out. you in pain?

I forgot to add- I knew someone once that had NASTY ear wax- I mean it was dark brown/black! So you might have the same problem he had- and I dunno what it was but it was gross… lol

I’ve had certain snuffs (Spanish Jewel,Toque Lao, Scotches etc) get up into my ear canal from a snuff. Very noticeable and pleasant indeed. An ear ache would be something completely different.

Yeah, when I first started snuffing, my ears would get all itchy when I sniffed too hard. It was more irritation of my inner ear though, not like a runny nose coming out my ear. You should definitely get that checked out.

Yeah it is hurting bad. I have always had excess ear wax but nothing black or brown like what is showing up now. I suppose I could be snuffing too hard. I’m not going through too much snuff based on what others have said in the forum on daily consumption. I suppose I’ve been going through about 3g a day. Not as much as most on here. I’ve toned down on the snuff the last few days and used over the counter ear wax removal kit and ear drops for pain. Seems to be working… but man that was rough and I was scared it was from snuffing and wanted to see if anyone else here had a similar situation happen to them. Thanks to all that responded.

Just guessing, but I think blowing your nose too hard or too much can rupture the aforementioned membrane. I would give yourself a thorough sinus wash, and go without snuff for a few days. Better still, see a doctor.

Thats the only way you could get ear ache; its the pressure not the snuff that does it.

I’d go to a doctor anyway. Even it has nothing to do with snuff those inner ear problems can plague you forever if they go unchecked. I had vertigo for 2 years just from an old inner ear infection that had never properly cleared up. You might also have trouble flying on airplanes due to the pressure.

Had surgery back in Feb of '09 to replace my left eardrum with a part of my jaw muscle. Every so often I will have wax build up and it is a dark carmel color. I never thought of snuff doing this…

Ear wax can turn dark for a number of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with snuff. Keep using the wax removal kit. You can also try blowing air from a hand-held hair dryer into your ear (set it on “warm,” not “hot”), which will help loosen wax and soothe any inflammation. If the earache continues for more than a week, make an appointment with a doctor.

k thanks for the tips guys. It seems to be subsiding for now. I think the worst is over. Looking back at it I think I may have been blowing my nose too hard while snuffing which may have caused it. From now on… I will blow alot gentler.
