I clicked on the Snuff Reviews link and got the following message: “This Account Has Been Suspended” Does anyone know what happened and when, or if, it will be back online? It’s a great site, and I rely on that site a lot. Thanks, Jerry.
i posted this in the other thread it says “Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible” Looks like they’ve not paid the hosting charge
I’d be happy to take it over if your interested Al?
Indeed! It will be a great loss for the SnuffTaking society if we leave it go. I’m in, if we decide to collect money to revive it. It was a pure treasure having a fair customer reviews of almost all snuffs existing on Earth. I hope the owner has just forgotten to pay for the host in time and not leaving this site alone.
So I guess that we never will learn just who won that December review contest.
Its a bit confusing of a message especially since people (non-site owners and reviewers) could have accounts there. I didn’t have an account on it but I thought maybe my IP address had gotten banned or something (why that would happen I don’t know but for a minute there I thought either someody from my area was attacking the site or maybe I had, I dunno, used too much bandwidth with just looking at too many reviews… but I thought all this only after I first confused this with thinking I was looking at and getting a message from MrSnuff’s store website… and sorry, Mr Snuff, for the 3 confused emails I sent to you about this, just call me Emily Latella).
I’m registered on snuffreviews and would be happy to make a contribution to keep the sight up and running. On the other hand, why can’t the content be uploaded to this site, and a forum created to house it if the original site can’t be revived?
Really a shame!! I just started posting reviews there myself…even though the reviews are based on personal opinion,I still found it useful on many snuff buying decissions! Hope it comes back eventually! The Wiz!
I hope it gets fixed asap, I too relied heavily upon that site when deciding what to order next. I went there today to find the best american sweet scotch to try. I’m not sure…but thinking of maybe Buttercup, Society, Honey-bee, or Tube Rose. Sorry to be off topic but, any suggestions anybody?
Well damn and double damn!! That was a huge resource for me being the snuffling that I am. Insert profanity of choice here _____! @jbruckus: My favorite sweet is the Honey Bee. Little to no smoke aroma, does indeed have the smell AND taste of honey. I rarely get any drip from this particular one now matter how hard I abuse it, but if I do it tastes good (-;
Sucks. Maybe it’s time for someone to make a new, better, site.
Look! This section of Filek’s site looks like snuffreviews.com but with more options.http://www.top25snuff.com/en/snuff.htmlAnyone who has saved his/her reviews can repost them.
What a pity, I went there frequently. What can we do about it? I’m prepared to pay a “subscription fee” to have it back on again.
Lyubo, the only downside of this site you have posted, for some of us, is that many reviews are not in English.
If anyone is starting a ‘fund’ of sometime to get the site back up and running, I know I would happily donate!
I have seen web hosting services advertised online for as little as $12.99 per year. We should try to get the coding from the original owner and have someone new take it over and re-register the website. Who here, other than Alex, is knowledgable about running a website?
I just went and had another look at Filek’s site. While it looks very nice, my Polish is far too limited to even work out what the various boxes in the snuff reviewing section are for.

EDIT: @LincolnSnuff I’m knowledgable with running a website, I was the system administrator for one place i worked. The last site i built was two years ago. And, i’m a white-hat (ethical hacker), i guess you could say i know my stuff…
Looks great! Am I correct in assuming that all of the snuff types are listed, but with not reviews, just waiting for us? Again, looks great. Beats the pants off Snuff Reviews.
Good work, looks really great.
It does indeed look good, but it doesn’t seem to want to let me log in!
the guy who owned snuff review was never interested and I predicted this would happen. i had a couple of hundred reviews on there but stopped putting stuff on there as i guessed it would be a waste of time. if anyone wants to organise this as a collective type thing io would be happy to contribute
I’m willing to donate to keeping snuffreviews going. It has been a valuable resource for me over the last year. It would be nice if it was owned and run by someone who is interested and cares about the snuff.
I’d be happy to take over running/maintaining. Pay the domain fees, and pay for hosting, but Al would have to be involved in the transfer and he doesn’t seem to be around.
Thanks Filek! I’ve given it a bit of thought and I am going to add my reviews to your site. It’s going to take a while of course. Another thought - it would be good if the ratings from the Polish and English parts of the site could be combined in some way, while keeping the actual reviews separate. Is that possible or even desirable?
That certainly simplifies things! I have noticed that when adding a snuff the form is not always the same. Momentarily confusing and if, as I did, a field gets the wrong information you can’t edit it once it has been submitted. The Levi Garrett entry wasn’t done by Levi Garrett but by me… I also found several snuffs missing from the English language section which I could not enter, being told that the entry already exists, presumably in the Polish language part of the site. The only other niggle so far is that I keep getting logged out. Not a major problem though.
This question comes from an IT iliterate, so forgive me if its stupid, however; could the contents of the site be copied in any way and saved for the future, whatever that might be. Is is practical and lawful to do that?
I tried to retrieve the site with wayback machine but I didn’t have a cahced copy. Boo. I had more luck with google. At least part of the reviews can be retrieved by searching (in google): “inurl:www.snuffreviews.com *” Instead of “*” try typing a member name or snuff. Here’s one http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:to9H78yife8J:www.snuffreviews.com/list.php%3FFunction%3DReviews%26ItemID%3D392+inurl:www.snuffreviews.com+troutstroker&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&client=firefox-a As you can see I typed. “inurl:www.snuffreviews.com troutstroker”, then clicked “cached”. Instead of reviews by troutstroker, google directed to the page for Spanish Jewel reviews. At least it’s something … HTH Edit: Another way to search cached pages is to search for example: “site:www.snuffreviews.com toque” then click “cached” in the results.
At least I have copies of all my own reviews, both on my own PC and on my own site.
@snuffster Because the guy has an account on this forum, I can’t remember his account name but, somebody could e-mail him. Then, ask if he has a backed-up copy of the database on his computer? I assume it’s a SQL or mySQL database then once you’ve got that, that’s half the job done.
See - didi878 posting #20, on page 1 of this thread.
Filek, I can’t find my account. Is it on the Polish side?
nevermind…
@ Xander Your account has been activated. @OTD Calm down, just updated. Already running.
Thanks, Wel.
I’m not very computer literate, so maybe someone can help me out. Suppose I wanted to pay whatever fee was not paid to get Snuffreviews back up and running? How do you find out who even needs to get paid, much less who was formerly doing the paying?
EDIT: @LHB The IP address for snuffreviews is 66.7.214.148 and the snuffreviews.com is a domain controlled by two nameservers at dizinc.com - snuffreviews.com has one IP number, but the reverse is sh135.surpasshosting.com snuffreviews.com is ranked #11385597 world wide and is hosted on a server in United States SurpassHosting.com, LLC 189 South Orange Ave, Suite 1500S Orlando, FL 32801
I have signed up at the new one, but cannot figure a few things out. There are applications that do not seem to do anything. The only one I have been able to use is the my favorites. And I tried using the PM another member and I was able to type up a nice little message but there was nothing to push to get it to actually send. To bad about the old site, I had just started using it and poof it was gone!
@dgriego: a thought, make sure your still logged in? I find I’m unexpectedly logged out at times even though I’ve been actively using the site. I attempted to send a PM just a bit ago, there was a submit button to use. Hit it and was taken to log-in screen. Logged in and the message apparently did not exist. Made sure I was still logged in and successfully sent a new message.
I got it working now. Not sure what I was doing wrong a when I first tried the PM I got a little white box that I could type in but no button to send it. This last time (thanks to OTD’s sending to me first) I got a box and a submit button! Maybe I was not logged in at the time of the first attempt. I do wish there was a wish list on there, would be nice to place a snuff on a wish list. How does the wall application work? That one I have not yet figured out
@ Filek or Wel: I’m trying to upload “Princes Dark” under Smith and Sons. The site tells me “A listing with that title already exists.”
@Xander Please try now. If there are any problems, please write to redakcja@top25snuff.com Response will be faster.
Snuffreviews.com is back up and running!
I think we still need both places.
If anyone has any ideas for SnuffReviews.com let me know I will try to get them up and going. Al SnuffReviews.com
Al, a little more policing would be nice. There are several bogus reviews up, and several non-existant snuffs. Quite a few of the names are mispelled too. Some snuffs are reviewd by the same person two and three times. I know, that part takes time you may not have. Also some of the snuffs in the “others” section could get made into their own categories. Nowadays we are getting more and more snuffs from beyond Western Europe and USA. Not complaining, the site is very handy. I enjoy it a lot. Thank you for making it.
if you get a minute, maybe some resorting/categorizing might be good (for example FUBAR is … well… FUBARed heh)
It could be re-organized a bit, esp the “other” section. Maybe have catagories based on where the snuffs are made, and then have the brand under that. Like, Made in North America, Made in Asia, Made in Europe. Of course all that would require work. I do think the “guest” option should be closed, as far as posting reviews.
Thanks for the input everyone. As far as posting without an accout, that has been removed due to all the spam. Even though the person SPAMing was trying to use URL code which does not work on my site. For all the resorting issues, please if you have time email me with any specifics as that will really help make it easier on me to fix them. Thanks again for your input and your kind words!
