Many people here seem to be rather knowledgable about a big variety of different snuffs. I get the impression that generally people take different types, understandably so with the vast range out there. But out of interest, does anyone have just one that they always (or almost always) stick to using? Whether a beginner or long-time snuffer?

K

Im not sure its the same thing, but I have a ‘can’t decide snuff’. When I dont know what to pinch I go for Toque Christmas Pudding almost everytime, I probably snuff it about 60% of the time.

F

LOL! all I can say for me is NOPE!

S

I’m currently using WoS S.M. Blue all but exclusively.

X

Nope. I rarely even use only one in a given day.

B

I mix it up every day but ALWAYS have a smashbox of Toque Quit in my right front pocket at all times and never have a day when I don’t use some.

S

My snuff usage seems to be aligned much like a solar system. At the center is HDT (the sun, the go to snuff, the always good choice) And then from there are concentric rings moving outward with decreasing preference. Thus in the first orbit are a couple of Molens, Hopfen, and Spanish gem. Sparrow green is next out with Tom Buck and#20 and so on These rings rotate in and out of my daily usage with pretty regular degrees of frequency. Thus I will reach for Macuba far more often than I reach for Santo domingo. Then there are the comets…………those snuffs that are just right for a particular occasion. In my defense…………I am on some pretty strong meds for a sinus infection

H

I have gone all day using snuffs from just one continent, does that count? Seriously, I rotate 10-15 different snuffs a day and wouldn’t be able to choose less than 5 to hit the road with.

R

Yes. Rooster. Everything else is just for flavoring the Rooster. But I’m not knowledgable enough for that to count for anything. Just habituated to the brand.

J

I like trying new kinds, have maybe 40 or 50 tins, but my usual day-to-day is filling my PC box with whatever American scotch I pull out first…

B

I use Dholakia white about 8 times a day, and whatever other kinds i feel like

F

I do have to agree with Brandasaur…lately I’ve been hooked on the Indian snuffs with a rotation of Dholakia Manjul, Ganga, Kamal, and Sparrow Green and Blue, with DW and WE find their way in there at least 4 or 5 times each a day!! Definately no cig cravings!!

L

With snus providing the lion’s share of my nicotine these days, when I decide to embark on a snuff session I usually pick whatever snuff strikes me at the moment and go with it. Usually a toast like IHT, Lime Toast, Whisky & Honey, etc. It’s rare that I mix and match snuffs now, but that was common when I first started taking snuff.

D

For me it depends on the day. The last couple of days all I used was SG Honey. I always carry three snuffs to work with me; two are always the same - McC Clove and WoS Chocolate Orange. The third varies depending on my mood. When I’m just going out and about though, and carry only one snuff, it’s always my tripletech box of McC Clove. That does everything for me that snuff can do. It was my first bulk purchase and I will never be without it as long as it’s being produced.

D

I have many, but if there was my one favorite go to from the moment I first had it, WOS COC would have to be it. Ken

S

80% of my use is Tom Buck. 10% HDT. 10% everything else.

A

I manage with three or four: Medicated, sp, toast and anything.

K

Always a toast, a menthol and something else. Today in my briefcase, HDT, Zip and NTSU (Tonka). My mainstays are HDT and O&G.

R

For the most part I use Taxi Red. I just tried some Quit with Snuff Jasmine than I got as a free sample and I bought a can of Tube Rose today when I saw it but have yet to try it. I have probably 20 different snuff but I can’t get away from the Taxi.

B

variety is the spice of snuff.

T

I daily use 6 Photo Kailesh, Super Kailesh, and Special. They are always on my desk. I like the Anarkali a lot too, but the above get daily use.

T

I use NTSU black and diffrent schmalzlers everyday. I throw in some others but those I use all the time.

J

I use toasts and scotches on a daily basis, and random kinds in between. Been using pretty much 2 bullets that I fill with mixtures. One is a toast/scotch (F&T:HDT and Toque: Toast n Marmalade. Sometimes I put a lil’ WE.Garret in with those two to add depth and more nicotine) and the other I’ve been filling with a mix of about 65% Dholakia Swiss Chocolate, 15% Fubar Grunt and 20% Extra Crumbs of Comfort - its chocolatey, minty, with a lil extra kick from the Grunt. Good stuff, I recommend the mixtures to those who haven’t already tried it.

S

I’m one to tell someone try Royal George, Santo Domingo, Dholakia Black and of course Toque Cheese & Bacon. What tins have I emptied though? McChrystals O&G one minor two xl’s, Poschl Apricot three times, Lowenprise twice, Bayernprise twice. Might be an indicator you’re looking for, “most emptied.”

E

HDT is allways my go to. But I mix it up with other snuffs during the day depending on my mood.

T

Toque W&H is my go-to single snuff, but I also have The General - a mix of W&H, HDT and IHT#22. That never leaves my side.

C

My go to snuff is W.E. Garret Scotch. It was my second ever snuff and it really did me well. I like it even more than their sweet which I like to use orally.

I

In the morning I fill my tin with one snuff for the day at work… When I travel I try to take at least 5 brands with me to kill the road boredom… And at a social event I tend to favor 1 or 2 brands for the evening!!

C

I reckon that 90% of my daily snuff intake is WoS IHT#22 (on my 2nd lb since Christmas)

U

O&G and an SP all day long (both carried with me in a snuffbox), all the other snuffs at night when I am home.

T

Although I change snuffs ALOT EVERY DAY, I ALWAYS have Tom Buck. I can’t go a day without my good ole’ Tommy. I could probably substitute Grand Cairo or Gold Label for it though and Probably will one of these days… but nothing is more lovely than some FRESH TOMMY IMO…

A

Not just one, but a relatively small number: Toque quit, toast, natural, original and rose, and WoS SP. If I’m sent a sample to review I’ll use that for a few days and now and then it leads to me including it for a while but I always go back to that small bunch. I use the rose as a flavouring, just a couple of snuff spoon fulls in my snuff box. One thing I never do is carry more than one around. My small brain would get confused.

D

I suppose I’m part of the norm, then. I always carry a bullet of Whiskey and Honey and a bullet of a toast, either Lime Toast or HDT. Beyond that, I have a little padded case meant to carry vials of essential oil in which I carry 6-8 10g smashboxes of various types. Then, I carry a Patrick Collins snuffbox with my special snuff for the day, typically either Christmas Pudding, Spanish Jewel, GH Jasmin/Sandalwood or Ambassador. Since I’ve been low on funds for the summer, my rotation is virtually nonexistent (i.e., I’m using generally what I have haha).

P

I only limit myself to one snuff when circumstances dictate, and that’s not often. I usually have snuffboxes filled with WoS Honey Menthol and F&T French Carotte in my pocket, and if I’m wearing my backpack, there will be a baggie with half a dozen or so tins of other varieties inside.

P

99% of the time it’s Dr. Rumneys Exclusive, which is good since i’am siting on a ton of it. Any one who has not tried it, and is making a purchase at Mr.Snuff, i recomend rolling the dice for the $2, i suspect you will not be disappointed.

P

Nope… not yet. I’m still in the “sample everything I can” phase.

T

I always carry Toque Menthol or Menthol/Quit mix during the day. At home, it is all about Schmalzers or others.

P

Decidedly not. Since 1995 - Sharrow’s Princes, Best Dark, Best S.P, No.22. Samuel Gawith’s Kendal Brown Original, London Brown and Irish D Light. No.22 has largely superseded Irish D Light consumption, and this year purchased a pound of Scotch Black, which I might buy bulk now instead of Best Dark. (Just as well Best Dark is only a snuff and not a woman). Not all these snuffs have been available during my snuffing career. The exceptions are Best S.P (formerly Queen’s) and Kendal Brown Original, both of which I’ve been using for nearly fifty years. When Enobarbus said of Cleopatra - age cannot wither her, nor custom stale, her infinite variety - he could also have been referring to certain snuffs. The same longevity also applies to J&H Wilson’s S.P No.1 and several others. Formerly took Morlaix (the real stuff, bought in large paper packets from France), F&T Princes, Masulipatem and Carroll’s Irish High Toast - all on a regular basis.

M

nope.

W

@PhillipS what was Masulipatem like? That and Ashteroth have always intrigued me, more the names than anything else I guess. Hopefully WoS could be persuaded to reincarnate them? Stefan

B

Instead we get patcholi and the other one. Haven’t tried patcholi afraid too but curious. The other one definatly the first F&T I’ll not buy again.

W

@bob, aye it’s a travesty. Bureau is mediocre and Patchouli just doesn’t appeal, although I suppose I’ll try it someday. Stefan

B

Yeah bureau was very disapointing. The funny thing is most of their over perfumed lot have a very blended scent like all the scents come together into a coherent whole, bureau no it a blast of chaotic scent. I’am going to try patchouli. Mostly to help encourage the production of more snuffs.

T

My all-day everyday snuffs are mcchrystal o&g and hops in a pc double then whatever takes my fancy when I am at home

B

noticed no one said abraxas.

S

usually whiskey and honey and GH Irish D … can’t go a day without either.

P

“What was Masulipatem like? That and Ashteroth have always intrigued me, more the names than anything else I guess. Hopefully WoS could be persuaded to reincarnate them?” Hello Stefan. There was a topic on F&T snuff resurrection a while back. Masulipatem - dark and strong. This aromatic snuff (had Cuban tobacco been available during the Trojan War) would have been favoured by the rugged Pyrrhus, he, whose sable heraldry, black as his purpose, did the night resemble. It was one of the few snuffs that caused a sensation of being slightly light-headed; the strongest snuff I’ve ever used. Remember reading that Ermtony still has some left. Masulipatem was famously the favourite of snuffy Charlotte (George III‘s missy). It was originally sold in pint claret bottles or 10lb jars with a long skewer for extraction. The modern version must have been very different from the original, not least because the tobacco was no longer imported from India. (I’m sure someone here posted a fascinating account on how the original was made, but I can’t find it.) Asthoroth was considered by some aficionados to be the best of the F&T snuffs. Rather ashamedly I admit to not recalling it with any clarity, perhaps because jasmine doesn‘t agree.

P

I use mostly one snuff at a time until I run out then I move on to the next snuff.

B

tobacco snuff is the onlyy kind I use regularly.

E

Yes, I still have a small amount of Masulipatam left - one of the small, sample tubes half full (or more depressingly, half empty). With so little left I only have a pinch once or twice a year, just to remind me of the flavour. It’s still strong and tasty. Those F&T tubes really do keep snuff fresh.

S

Nah. I’m too busy trying new snuffs still. I probably will in the future I’m guessing. I’ve imagined it turning out that way eventually but the temptation of variety is too strong when I’m still discovering the pleasures of serendipity.

A

They do, I have some Seville in one of those tubes that’s nearly 40 years old and still good. The most tantalizing thing I have read about the old FandT snuffs is that scent was rarely added, the different flavours being the result of tobacco blending. Makes the modern method of making a base flour and dumping flavourings into it seem very uncouth.
