Hi I love toasts but have only read negative reviews of Dholakia’s so am unlikely to try them but before I do dismiss them, does anyone have anything good to say about them? Thanks.

S

I have not tried all of them but have tried the Super Strong Toast which I noted to be quite ‘dry’ as compared to most everything else they offer. It is also quite fine grind, not as fine as Dholakia White but fine just the same. It has a good toasted tobacco flavor with a very subtle background ‘spicy’ note that may well be in part due to the fact so many pungent varieties come from the same place. Sort of reminds me of a cross between a toast and an American Scotch. Is it great? No… Is it bad?? No… just has its own place…

hmmm … well, you will be able to determine how good they are based on how many responses you receive here … but safe to say these aren’t toasts, at least not what a traditional English toast is to the nose … all of these are very dry, pulverized beyond belief, dusty powders that are nothing but the unmistakable subcontinent scent of traditional indian snuffs, and not in a good way … not a hint of toast or even scotch in the scent, nothing smokey to it … your mileage may vary, of course … this is just my opinion. if you never try these, you aren’t missing much. but, if you are like all of us with TAD, you will try it out of compulsion … if so, hopefully you like it, otherwise, you will give it away, as i did.

I agree with Brant. I bought 50 grams of each when they were first released. I still have a lot left and that’s with giving samples away to save others money if they did not like them. I’ll still take an occasional pinch but they will never be replaced once they are gone. There are much better toast options available. Pretty much every other toast I have tried falls into that much better option category. But as they say YMMV

Fubar toasted : Has some scent of actual toasted bread on the dark side. For a different take on toast . Will buy again The dholakia toasts need work, They are not creamy ,nutty or smokey. will not buy

I’ve not tried them but don’t forget that many a new snuffs have gotten poor reviews at first and then somehow become snuffhouse favorites. For example when the world of south african snuffs like ntsu and taxi opened up to the rest of the world there where only bad reviews. Many stateing that there was no way anyone could enjoy them. I got made fun of a lot for likeing royal george (not made fun of but my senses where definatily questioned.) The whole of the grunt line was lambasted as terrible. My point don’t take the reviews so seriousily. Noses are fickle. Often it seems as if a product doesn’t smell like expectations dictate, it’s bad. After people get used to the new thing and don’t expect an indian toast to be like a english toast suddenily the reviews get good. There are lots and lots of reviews that have been revised. Try them see what you think.

bob makes a good point. But this is one case where I would buy the smallest container available. Seems like perique used them a fair amount. I could be wrong about @perique being who I would see post them in the What’s in you nose thread.

I’ve said this before… I think Dholakia is severely restricted by the grinding machinery they use. In order to compete with English snuff makers they are going to need to fix this problem. 2cents!

Someone was kind enough to send me a sample of the Regular Toast. I intend to write a proper review at some point but here’s my quick take: Do not compare to Irish (English) Toasts. If you like Dholakia’s Sparrow snuffs you will probably like this. In fact I think this particular one is very much like Sparrow except maybe without the oil base. It has a nice little punch to it, but its not going to burn through your septum either, like some of the utltra-fine ones out nowadays.

S

Thanks @Xander and everyone else. I like Sparrow a lot so will have to try these toasts now.

So far I have tried the Dholakia Medium Toast and I like it. It is a very dry natural snuff, nothing fancy but it does the trick and is a nice for a change of pace. The Fubar Toasted is good too but a good bit stronger and I cannot really describe its scent too well. Calling these snuffs toasts is probably accurate as far as how they are made but they are pretty far removed from the Irish/ English stuff that most of us are familiar with.
