Do you find certain snuffs give you sneezing fits?

Yesterday I had the worst sneezing fit I’ve had in a long time…and today to a lesser extent. I was doing a blogtalkradio show last night and had to mute my mic for half the show because of incessant sneezes, like up to 5 or 6 at a time. I think (although not positively sure) that my mix of de Kralingse chococreme and Qsnuff Irish coffee is doing it. I’ve noticed lately that I get super stuffed up when I take it, sneeze a lot (although not as bad as last night), and it turns into something like feels like a cold, but its not. The last time this happened, my nose felt “sick” for 3 days. When I was mixing irish coffee with Gletscher Prise, there was no problem…so I’m guessing its probably the chococreme that’s getting to me. Right now, it feels almost like there’s a piece of snuff stem stuck up high in my nose and tickles every time I take a deep breath, and results in sneezing anywhere between 2 to 5 times one after the other. I checked up there with a flashlight, but can’t see anything. The sneezing & running gets ugly enough to where its hard to take other snuffs today, and I’m starting to get a little frustrated. So…Have any of you noticed that certain snuffs give you sneezing fits? Is it possible to get a bit “allergic” to certain snuffs?

yes coarser grinds get me all sneezy and snuffly. Happens most with schmalzlers and particularly with Toques clove and camphor. It’s actually effective for clearing out my nose in addition to smelling amazing. I’ve noticed the Toque clove and camphor, at least my 25g tin has some rather coarse milling. I love it though!

the only time snuff ever makes me sneeze is if the moisture level is not optimal, like if I forget and leave some in my snuff box overnight. For me, sneezing is directly related to moisture level. Dry snuff is ruined snuff, which is why I decant only the amount I’ll take over a few hours from a 4oz mason jar to my snuff box.

I’m wondering about the moisture level for me as well. Moister snuffs are fine for me, as are very fine and dry snuffs like toasts. But this chococreme is dry and coarser, and seems to rub my nose the wrong way. Too bad, because I like that snuff a lot. :(. …And I’m STILL having sneezing fits. I haven’t had that chococreme/irish coffee mix since yesterday, and my left nostril still has this weird tickle way up high in there even after a neti pot treatment. I’m beginning to get really p.o’d about the sneezing and tickles.

maybe you -are- getting a cold? However, I’ve noticed deKralingse’ coarse grind makes my nose run more than other snuffs, perhaps a flake hit a sore spot caused by a rhinovirus of some kind?

Yep, I wondered the same thing, @Mouse, if I was catching a cold. There’s a Filipino old wive’s tale that says that if you sneeze twice in a row, that you’re catching a cold. But what does that mean if I sneeze 6 times in a row…3 colds or a flu? LOL! :))

I sneeze multiple times daily. I assumed it just went with the habit. I kind of enjoy the sneezes, and sometimes encourage them by staring into bright light or yanking out a nose hair.

Yanking out a nose hair? =))

too dry and too moist snuff make me sneeze for the first pinch only. My perfect snuff neither make me sneeze nor makes a running nose. A little bit coarse and a little bit moist.

@TobaccyLassy I have them to spare. If you need some used ones, let me know. Enough of them would make a good snuff duster/brush. They’re easy to disguise when one wears facial hair, I just comb them into my mustache. If you can’t duplicate the experiment due to feminine considerations, try plucking an eyebrow close to the center. :)>-

I have had to sneeze when I do Superior from time to time but I think it has to do with the burn feeling it gives when it first enters the nose. I haven’t tried all the flavored snuffs as many of the members have so maybe it could be something that is added

Oooh! Superior! Maybe the most well balanced scotch out there. Sadly here I can only find it in the large tins (and its the only one in large tins). Its begging me to crack it open right now. Sorry to drag the thread OT but I found the small ones in Ocean City last summer. @MattheFox where did you find yours? On Kent Island?

Why am I complaining? If its so good, then large tins are what I should be seeking. I need to go buy another one.

@Xander I get mine in the smaller tins in the Food Lion on Kent Island. I looked for them in Dover but Red Dot doesn’t have a good selection. I like Honey Bee but I have to buy it in large cans also :frowning: I will say this, the manager of the Red Dot @ Dupont Hwy & Division will order for you if she thinks you will become a regular. Very nice girl

hmm. Honey Bee is everywhere in Wilmington. Small cans only, but they all carry it (or Tops Sweet). I can find them ridiculously cheap, but that depends on the vendor. We may have to establish a Honey Bee-Superior exchange. Oh, the Superior is actually to be found in New Castle. if you need the big cans, I can give you the address of two places.

=)) And yes, it is possible to sneeze by laughing too hard.

BOHICA is the only one that I get any kind of sneezing fit with, and it happens every time in varying intensity

I don’t think I’ve ever sneezed from any snuff. Maybe somethings wrong with me. Did anyone see the Mythbusters sneezing episode (seeing if a sneeze goes 100mph and travels 30ft)? Pretty disgusting, especially when they added other stuff to their snuff for color and even poured food coloring into their mouths before sneezing. They didn’t do our hobby any favors with that crap. And it doesn’t seem very scientific to pour liquid into your mouth before sneezing to see how far you can spit it!

Well…turns out…that the sneezing fits were indeed indicative of a cold. It turned into a cold on crack on monday, and I started getting worried when I started rasping when I breathed and coughing up lime green junk. Saw Doc today and its bronchitis. Sucks! Doc prescribed superstrong cough med and an inhaler (hard to breathe). It sucks not having health insurance at this time, because the meds cost me well over 100 bucks. ~X(

when i want to sneeze i use “snuff” which is sold “as is” but made from some spicies including black pepper. I have the record of non-stop 64 continious sneezes. It cleans the sinuses very well but make my eyes red like a bull.
