Apart from Toque BB and the various Toque fruits, all the other Toques irritate my throat and so do most, if not all, Toasts. I’ve been snuffing 8ish months and can shovel Rooster, Bruton, any Scotch, Dholakia Sparrow up my nose without any problems at all so it’s not my breathing technique. Oddly enough the Toque fruit flavors don’t cause me problems, but the others do and always have. I just wish I didn’t always cough when I take W&H or Toast and marmalade or Lime toast, and St Clements is the absolute worst. I love these flavors, my throat hates them. I can’t work out why this is still happening. I’m hardly a newbie.
Sounds like you are getting the snuff in your throat, just about any snuff can irritate your throat. Re-evaluate your technique and then try them again.
I mean… if it’s ending up in your throat then it IS your technique… lol If you’re referring to the drainage… maybe it’s the citrus?
It seems to me that if just a few particles of a Toast hits my throat, it’s very irritating. I’ve been trying to finish a tin of Wilson’s Lemon Toast today and it’s been painful. IHT22 does the same. It kills my throat. The only toast which doesn’t irritate so much is F&T HDT. If my technique is the problem, why does Bruton cause me no problems at all? A notoriously difficult snuff to take. Why does D. Sparrow give me no problems? I even find DW less irritating than most toasts. Edit: just had 4 BIG spoonfuls of Bruton, 2 up each nostril, not a hint of irritation or coughing. Perhaps I’m just better off with Scotches and should forget the toasts and most Toques altogether.
Try pinching instead of using a spoon.
The normal Toque base tobacco has started to disagree with me as of late. I’m not sure what it is, but I get left with a funny after smell and a slight sense of nausea when I take anything other than BB or the toasts… Maybe the ‘toasted’ tobacco just doesn’t agree with you.
sounds like the natural oils are bothering you. citrus oils can do that. Thing is probably not an allergy just a sensitivity (possibly temporary.) I honestly doubt your immune system is what’s upset. Fits with citrusy things.
I get that with Mild Lemon, only that one.
There are quite a few snuffs that do this to me; mostly those made by SG. A pinch of Cafe Royal (SG contract blend for Smiths) or of KB will give me an itchy throat and all of the symptoms of a streaming head cold. If technique doesn’t solve it you may just be mildly allergic to one of the ingredients. I wonder if taking a piriton tablet would prove that?
Well, a rather fortunate discovery. After posting this thread last night, I decided to rehydrate my Toque smashboxes by spraying water on the lids and leaving them till today. It’s really taken the edge off the throat irritation, even with the Toasts.
Not Smashboxes, original tins with threaded lids.
OscarWabbit- Every one needs to know that trick. You can keep a snuff a long time as long as you keep the moisture right.
Thanks Roderick, Whalen. I should have been clear. I use 5g smashboxes like the ones you get from snuffgear so by Toque smashboxes, I meant smashboxes containing Toque snuff.
Plastic allergy, Oscar. This explains your uncontrollable rage against sneeze-boxes and Toque in PLASTIC bags!!
I’ve just ordered some Toques in plastic bags and I like plastic boobies too! So it can’t be that, Bart.
@OscarWabbit By plastic boobies, please say you mean implants! A blow up doll would just make your avatar that much more appropriate!!! =D
LOL!
Giggity goo
Toasts are simple. Place a pinch under the nostril, and *think* about inhaling. Just about does the trick. It’s very, very finely divided, and needs next to no lift. Schmalzer addicts, on the other hand, can lift manhole covers with their noses…
Thanks for the advice. I know how to take toasts.
