Dislike WoS Gold Label - mixer ideas?

Hi I have to say, now I’ve spent some extended time with Gold Label, I dislike 2 things about it. Firstly, it’s got more of a burn than I find comfortable. Secondly, there’s a metallic influence to the flavour and as its reminiscent of rust (even tho the tin looks fine) it’s rather unpleasant. I was wondering what other snuffs might work well to enhance thus snuff or to be used as a mixer? Just looking for ideas. Thanks. Edit: I was thinking of throwing in some O&G.

Sounds like you got a bad tin. It should have a sweet Virginia taste to the tobacco and a mild-moderate bergamot like the other SPs. I’ve had two tins of this and they were drastically different to each other. One was excellent and I finished it. The other was as you describe, and I think I gave it away.

When an SP burns a lot it’s usually because its dried out too much - SP gets very gritty when this happens. OandG would be ok but go very easy or you will have zero character from the base SP left, that might be a good thing if you really don’t like it; dumping whats left in a stronger snuff just to be economical? However, my favourite mix with this type of snuff is adding 1 part Royal George. You will love or hate it so experiment with a small amount first.

Thanks for the advice guys. A small amount of O&G made quite a difference. Didn’t think to try Royal George, sounds like a good idea. Cheers! Edit royal george does work well.

OMG I love Gold label and I’ve been using it alot lately Rust? metallic taste? Sounds like you have a bad batch- mine is an American Tobacco (like virginia tobacco) with a great SP-ish bergamot scent to it. I find it rather lovely…

So basically you destroyed a tin of Gold Label?

Gawtith Apricot is a great ixer for Gold Label. both of them are all day snuffs for me and the apricot can make it taste better while the menthol reduces the burn

I tipple my Gold Label from bulk, it is a wonderful tobacco that should be enjoyable without any adulteration. Just a truly wonderful base tobacco in this creation that deserves to be enjoyed. That being said, I wonder just how many snuffs are allowed to get a little too dry before taking. I spend time to rehydrate my snuffs by spritzing a fine mist of distilled water on the inside of the lid, this is just enough to keep the snuff perfect over time. It took a while to find just the right atomizing sprayer for the job, but well worth the effort. This allows for indirect absorption, and keeps the snuff just perfect. Spraying directly onto the snuff will cause clumping and will just ruin it in time. I consider this hydration a necessary task to preserve my snuffs once enough snuff has been acquired.

When I tried it I loved it straight from the tin, but later came to the conclusion that this is one snuff that dies quickly, unlike other ones that are fine with plenty of air. It loses that special quality and when that things gone, its gone…

I’ve not had any Gold Label for a couple of years, but I do agree with @petersuki, you have to use it quick or else all the flavour goes. I prefer SP100, although saying that if I recall, GL does have a lovely base tobacco. Stefan

SP 100 in the bigger tin. How do they get it all in there? I’ve filled a small box and used it for three days and it’s still overflowing. Not that I’m complaining. When I first tried GL I thought it the closest to a sniff of Cuban cigar leaf I’d found - but the essence just flew out of the tin.

The sweet light Virginia tobacco flavor is so distinctly different from the darker tobaccos, the sugar content shines through with that wonderful butterscotch Virginia leaf scent underneath. I had a profound amount of flavor present in my bulk tub, still do. This one really gave me quite a bit of very pleasurable and complex scent, I was quite pleased at the effect, and it is always in rotation. I think this is one that should always be bought in bulk just to be able to sample it fresh, a lot of bulk snuffs present so much more flavor that I have been convinced it is really the only way to go. That is one of the most important things I have learned from my snuffs. My first hit out of a bulk tub of Camphor and Mild was fantastic. The advent of Samuel Gawith being available in those wonderful tins has been a real joy also.
