I tried to search this on Snuffhouse, I see references to herbal (non tobacco) snuff and secondary flavorings with herbs, has anyone tried to make an featured herb snuff? I was just wondering, seems like Dill may be a possibility, or Rosemary? Any way with an assessment of what’s still alive out in the yard, it’s been drought, hot and I’ve been too tired (excuse), I have a few herbs available and am going to give it a whirl. Any thoughts on the matter?
Never thought of that one! Dill would be a very nice snuff. Give it a whirl and let us know how it works out. I may give it a try too, using Drum RYO as a tobacco base.
@Hooked, do you mean a herb-flavoured tobacco snuff, or a herbal, non-tobacco snuff? If you want to flavour a plain snuff with herbs, I would suggest putting some herbs in cheese cloth in a tub of snuff. Let it sit for a while, giving it a stir once-in-a-while. A similar method was mentioned on here a long time ago using flowers. I have not tried this myself; howver, I have made snuff with Drum ryo and it is a very good base indeed.
Snuffing pickles.
I’d snuff it. Dill is amazing.
I like the smell of Dill. I always recall the big tomato worms that seemed to love it as well whenever we had them close in the garden. As far as a snuff scent, Well I would try it once at least and who knows. Maybe it would be a really nice one.
That reminds me, I’ve got some caraway snuff around somewhere around here.
Pickled herring and dill.
I recently added skullcap (scutellaria lateriflora) to a snuff mixture I created, quite nice.
I made the leap and used some fresh Rosemary for a first trial run and liked the result, It gave my 40 year old Bruton snuff a slight upward kick and hid that bar-b-q taste everyone describes.
Wilson’s already makes Rosemary. Thyme and Lemon too. Dill and Garlic, anyone?
I actually did make a dill-flavored snuff this summer. I took a handful of fresh dill from the garden, wrapped it in a tea bag and left it in a jar for a week with 25g of Toque Natural. The only problem was that the end result smelled faintly of dill; nowhere near enough. Believe me, I used a large amount of fresh, very aromatic dill. It may be necessary to mix ground dill directly into the tobacco. I didn’t try that, though. @matsnuffs: I would be first in line to purchase Dill and Garlic snuff. I truly would be.
I’d go for Basil, Cilantro, heck even Parsley before I’d go with Dill.
My parents grew dill in their garden this summer, and due to certain circumstances I stayed with them…anyways…when the wind blew just right after a rain one night and carried that fresh rain/dill scent through the kitchen window, I was certain I’d smelled heaven.
I imagine dill essential oil would be more effective than loose dill. Just more potent.
Would dill and garlic snuff be called Polski Wyrobi or Kosher Dill?
I would call it “Pickle Barrel”
I grew dill this year too, I gave it all away. I like “Pickle Barrel” for a name, I bet my sister would sniff it.
