Well here I sit with a monumental dilemma- which one to try first. I am sure others have faced this conundrum as well. I eagerly opened my first order from Mr. Snuff and sit here wondering which one to dig into first. On the table sits a fragrant array of tempting tins- I have before me Samuel Gawith COB Gold, Hedges (260), Fribourg & Trarers Santo Domingo, McCrystals SP and English Mentol, and a Wilsons Royal George. So which one to try first?
id say cob gold, santo domingo, sp, royal george, english menthol then hedges, but leave a bit of a break and make sure you minimise residual scents with a hearty blow but really its up to you, i just ordered them like this as id expect to be the best in terms of crossover/ blocking.
Don’t start with the menthols. It will most definitely linger in the nose for an hour or so.
I went with your order and must say this is a nice snuff. Not to turn this into a full blown review but I like it. The 25g tin feels good in the hand, opened easily and presented a medium brown snuff that was filled nearly to the top. It clumps when held between two fingers but a bit or finger rolling releases it into the nose. I am very curious as to how the Santo Domingo will fare with its very dark and heavy tobacco scent. Looks like I know where my day is heading. Thanks!
Santo Domingo grew into a favorite of mine. It is top notch snuff. But I have to admit, I was disappointed when I first tried it. Out of that list. Santo would be my only reorder.

Good point. As posted, I started with the COB Gold and wasn’t sure if I would be keen on the floral scent, but it sits nicely. I will let this one simmer for a while, take a blow and then try the Santo Domingo. I must say this is a very exciting day for me. I have been enjoying my “standard” Toque Original and Apricot but decided to make a go of trying new things. Very glad I have done this. As always, thank you for the insight and by all means, keep it going.

What was the disappointing part? I noted that it smells very much like Skoal, the American dip. Perhaps.
Well, i didn’t get the peaty, earthy, leathery rich tobacco scent at first. It was just kind of bland. But the more you snuff, the more your nose will sort it out.

Following the sequence recommended by FirestarterO I cleaned things out and dug into the Santo Domingo. I certainly get an earthy scent, not quite the heavy tobacco note when I first opened the can, and certainly not what I imagine Skoal would smell life is snuffed. It is some thick-chunky stuff, almost too heavy to sniff. While I like the looks of the tall can, it does present a challenge in getting a pinch, so I tapped some into the lid and went from there. Boxcar seems to be a good route with this one. Since I have yet still a half day ahead of me I will let this one simmer for a while and then see how the SP is. I do enjoy SP’s and hope this one will be just the same, if not better.
Continuing on today’s journey through my snuffs I have moved onto the Mc Crystals SP. This is a very fine SP. Quite a departure from the consistency of both the COB Gold and Santo Domingo. Certainly a much finer snuff and a SP as I know them to be. Feeling like the proverbial kid in the candy shop and can hardly want to move onto my next today. Quite the journey.
