Hello fellow snuffers, I’m relatively new to nasal snuff (<10g snuffed so far) and I had a question regarding the consistency of snuffs. Are there different kinds? I’ve only tried Ozona and Silver Dollar so far, and I’ve noticed that Ozona seems to be more moist compared to SD, to the point where I have to stuff SD. I can’t sniff the Silver Dollar because it’s much finer and drier, and it goes straight to the back of my throat and makes my ear hurt. I have to stuff it then gently exhale to get the loose stuff out, and I’m getting the feeling that I’m wasting some of it doing this. Is this normal?

Yeah its normal to get some snuff particulate in your throat. I recommend taking a massive pinch and sniffing “from the nose only” as it will limit this. Yeah there’s plenty of different “grinds and moisture contents” from super dry to super “cakey.”

Thanks for the help transistor. I do for the most part have the sniffing down because with the Ozona I don’t get the throat hit. I’ll have to continue experimenting with how strong to sniff for the Silver Dollar.

The three basic type of grinds are fine, medium and coarse. Within those three types there are numerous textures, moisture levels and ways of manufacture - with different snuff producing countries having their own traditions, styles and regulations about what can go into snuff. The snuffs you have tried are German (Ozona) or in the German style - SD. These snuffs have a fairly unique type and make up and only represent a tiny part of what is available. A change to something else, and modifying your technique, would more than likely help. There is a whole mess of stuff about technique on the site, so use the search tool, to get an idea of what other snuffs are out there have a look at what our supporter shops sell, over there ------------->>

And thanks to you too as well snuffster! I did figure that my collection was fairly limited judging by what mrsnuff has to offer. I’ll be sure to buy through the store ads here on the site. The search tool didn’t quite help me answer my original question, hence this thread, but I’ll see what comes up regarding technique. Cheers to both of you!

Try a large pinch (counter-intuitive but true), maybe a lot bigger than your usual. Take a pea sized pinch and place it just inside your nostril and then inhale gently but sharply - but make sure the pinch is a few mills inside the nostril when you do it, repeat on the other side. I’ve found for a lot of people that very slight technique change can cut out a lot of burn and bite and although you are taking more the effect is very mellow. Maybe, as well, get some of the Toque range and experiment. SD is a Toque snuff but made to fill the Poeschl gap in the US market - that type can be irritating for some users. I would suggest a plainer, more traditional English type like Toque original or natural.

Very true. Try this ^^^

So I went out to the local tobacconist to get some tins for someone on here and decided to pick up a tin of Silver Dollar Raspberry just in case the last two were flukes. Opened it up and took a big pinch and stuffed it… This tin seems like it’s more moist than the other two I had originally purchased, and as a result not nearly as much throat hit I think I like this one better than Ozona’s Raspberry, not as mentholated and closer to real raspberries, but not as long lasting. Thanks for the tips!
