Dholakia White Advice

New guy here. Been using snuff for only a couple of months to get off a five-year cigarette habit. Relapsed back into smoking a little while ago, hence my absence from this forum. Now I’ve re-developed my nicotine tolerance and I’m looking for something strong to really stop the cigarette cravings, and according to what I’ve heard, Dholakia White and Toque Quit are gonna fit the bill in terms of nicotine. Got orders for both inbound. But I keep hearing the Dholakia White is perhaps the least user-friendly snuff available. Anyone have any advice for a new guy when it comes to using DW? Any thoughts on technique, or how much I should order? Thanks!!

There’s really no way to take DW without coughing, at least not for me. The least painful way was recommended by a member here but I forget who. You take a deep breath and hold your breath, with your mouth closed tight. Hold the pinch up to your nose (the bigger the better, bigger pinches stay more towards the front), then open your mouth/part your teeth with your lips still sealed, slowly. This creates enough of a vacuum to get it all in hopefully without making your eyes water. Though my eyes still water about 50% of the time. There are some coarse strong snuffs out there, like the South Africans. You can also always just take like 10 pinches of anything and get a bit of a lift.

A couple others maybe slightly easier to take with a good kick Fubar Snafu Plain, Dholakia Sparrow Cool, WE Garrett Scotch, Toque Quit. Or you could mix the Dholakia with another fine to medium fine snuff.

Of course, u can be insane like me… And mix DW and BRUTON and snuff it right up between the pupils…oh the sheer agony…ORDERLY…ORDERLY… Is it time for my 12 o’clock snuff yet??

i don’t recommend DW for you. Take several pinches off of the snuff you like instead.

i stopped with snus. snuff wasnt really enough on its own. however i find abraxas firedrac, hedges menthol and abraxas premium great for beating the craving i do get. premium i think because of it being finer, moist and high nic, and the other two for the invigorating nose burn that snaps me out of craving. packing the nose with tons of taxi red is supposed to help, but i dont like it personally. too coarse/moist/heavy. it balls up and falls out.

The straw method is an option, but it’s not public friendly… you put a pinch into a straw, put one end of the straw in your nose, and lightly blow into the other end with your mouth. theres some youtube videos on how to do it.

I know it’s a shameless plug, but this is my method for taking the ultra-fine snuffs. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/5831/finally-an-end-to-the-coughing-fits It’s the only thing I’ve found that works for me. Someone mentioned a ‘drop the adam’s apple’ technique in another thread. This would be basically the same thing. You still have to respect the evil snuffs, but the whole idea is to sniff without using the lungs.

Breathe out, concentrate, press the back of your tongue firmly against the palate (your own palate, I mean), sniff lightly. It works about 80 percent of the time, the other 20 percent must be considered collateral damage.

@Jackie_Bones if you need a decent nic hit from a snuff of coarser grind give Samuel Gawith Kendal Original a try. Two sizable hits of that stuff glues me to my chair smiling for a good 20 mins

Add a moist snuff to the DW and gradually reduce the amount of moist snuff till you add none. This may take several weeks till you master using the white straight. The Toque Quit has a better tobacco scent and is easier to use.

I even find Toque too fine to avoid getting instant throat, and I swear I am not sniffing hard in the slightest. I’m not sure if it’s moisture or the grind. No problems whatsoever with WoS, SG or McChrystal’s, getting my technique down really satisfactorily for many of those. Any advice? It’s a shame because I have a large tin of Toque vanilla, and I like the flavour.

I honestly don’t know why I recommended another snuff as a nic hit in place of D White - yeah it is hard to take but man it does the job like nothing else…I gues it is just a question of trial and error until you find a way that works.

@snuffski: have you tried a snuff spoon? I used to have throat hit problems till I discovered that if I put some snuff on the flat end of the spoon right by the bridge just under the end of the nostril and tilted slightly towards the bridge (without the snuff falling off) and inhaling lightly Toque or toast won’t hit the throat. DW still will, probably.
