Dholakia Toasts

Dholakia produces a number of different toasts… high dry, medium dry, regular dry, and super strong. I have liked almost all of the Dholakia snuffs I have tried and a couple of them are favorites. Am I missing something by not trying these or I should I just stick with the old reliables?

You’ll never know if you don’t try them

I’ve really wanted to try them, among many, many, many other snuffs lol, but I haven’t. I would think they’re pretty great judging by the other Dholakia products. Give 'em a try.

I can’t believe that’s all it took… order placed for one 25g tub of each.

I’m so happy with Sparrow and White that I haven’t bothered with the others. Perhaps we’re both missing something great. Take one for the team and report back! You may inspire others to follow where you lead.

So I’ve tried all the Dholakia toasts. Interestingly enough, my favorite of the bunch is the regular toast. It has a nice initial sting that mellows quick to a great straight forward toasted tobacco scent. It’s a no frills snuff, but that’s what makes it good to me. The medium toast doesn’t do anything for me. I should probably spend more time with it though. The high dry toast is pretty good. It doesn’t carry as much tobacco scent or any complexities like F&T, and eludes a subtle fermented scent after a few takes. The extra strong toast is definitely strong and is so much so that it gives off a mildew scent to me. It’s something everyone should try at least once, but the regular toast will probably be the only one that becomes a mainstay. It’s also probably too early to even make this comment as I will be spending more time with them all over the next couple weeks. I’m sure there’s more here than what I’m initially finding.

The Dholakia Regular and Medium are a brown based color hue. The Regular has a very slight barnyard and raw cocoa bean scent. The Medium is cloying as it begins to carry a slight mildew scent, but still has the same nuisances as the regular. The Dholakia High Dry and Super Strong are a reddish brown based color hue. The High Dry and Super Strong are both dominated by a mildew scent. The High Dry has some tobacco scent, while the Super Strong is just a strong mildew scented snuff to me. I have included a photo for reference to other toasts, three of my favorites… F&T HDT, Toque Natural Toast, and WoS Irish 22. You should be able to see that these toasts are much lighter in color hue, a very light golden brown in comparison. These three toasts are all superior (IMO) to the Dholakias. They are all very similar amongst themselves but do have some slight differences to me. The F&T and WoS are just a little bit stronger than the Toque. The F&T has more of a leather undertone. The WoS is probably the standard, as it actually has the most straight forward pure natural toasted tobacco scent. The Toque Natural Toast is my favorite of them all, but that’s because it has a sweet bread scent to me and it is just so soft and easy to take. So F&T is like eating/sniffing a piece of toast with leather gloves on, WoS is like eating/sniffing a plain piece of toast, and Toque is like eating/sniffing a piece of toast with a little butter. The Dholakia Toasts smell artificial and burnt to me, while the UK manufactured toasts smell natural and lightly toasted. All in all, I won’t be introducing the Dholakia toasts into my regular rotation, as the quality of the UK manufacturers can’ t be beat. It’s important to note that these are all my own opinions and everyone’s tastes are unique. Dholakia makes quality products and I use many of their snuffs on a daily basis.

@Jim I agree. There are too many good/great toast snuffs available to settle for these offerings from India. It just isn’t Dholokia’s strong suit. We have easy access to HDT, Lundy Foot, WoS, SG, Toque and GH so there’s no reason to indulge in these. Just my opinion.

@chefdaniel not to mention the OM toasts. Pure Virginia, Olde English, and Butternut are some of my favorites. The UK manufacturers are good at toasts, but you know your way around them too!

@Jim , many thanks for the Dholakia toasts comparison! Always great to see photos, as well. I’ve been wondering if they can beat the Brits in their own game, so to speak.

Dholakia Toasts are not an everyday snuff for me but there are days when they seem to hit the spot.
