Dholakia’s Swiss Chocolate gets so many rave reviews that I decided to add some to my last order and I have to say it is like putting your nose in a tin of chocolate powder… but I am also getting cheese! Like blue cheese. After-scent of stilton. Something! It’s a little off-putting. I don’t think it’s ammonia - it’s not at all like the scent from a new Toque tin (which I seem to oddly start to quite like as a sign of freshness…). And I don’t think it’s that lovely fermented smell from Schmalzer. Did I get a bad batch, or is this something others notice/like? I’ve tried airing it for a few hours but no change yet.

I just had to try some to see what you mean, but no cheese. Maybe it is a scent from the base tobacco coming through the chocolate scent and the combination of the two fires the cheese-detectors in your nose?

Put it away for a month. sometimes snuff is different when you revisit it. Great tobacco for mixing , that if your a chocolateholic

Thank you @Mouse and @basement_shaman! It is an interesting interaction if it is my nose doing acrobatics with chocolate + tobacco, although the WoS Chocolate (which isn’t really like chocolate…) doesn’t do it for me. I think I’ll take your advice and shelve it for a while and try to catch myself unawares later.

The WoS chocolate one doesn’t seem like chocolate to me (though I just read a post where it was likened to plain chocolate essence), I get a kind of SP scent with a touch of choccie in there. Pleasant enough, though. When I got my Dholakia Swiss Chocolate I found it seemed to have somethign else going on in the scent, so I left the lid off for a couple of hours, which seemed to improve it. I must say that I find the scent of the De Kralinsge Chococreme to be superior, but the Dholakia grind is just beautiful - I swear they must take every grain and sand the sharp edges off. If you like the chocolate and blue cheese idea though, try this place; http://parkers-cakes.com/index.html They make, to order, dark chocolate covered stilton chocolates, which are sensational. And I really mean that - I buy ten quids worth as presents to myself on my Birthday, Easter and Christmas!

Thanks HR! The WoS chocolate is actually a bit SP now you come to mention it. And I *love* SP so this may change how I think about it The Dholakia - I’ll leave it for a bit and try again. But chocolate and blue cheese chocs! I was actually complaining about the cheesy scent but these could convert me. Yum.

I initially loved Swiss Choc but over the last 2/3 weeks I’ve been trying to finish off a 50g tub and it’s been hard work. It does smell delicious but causes too much mucous production and throat drip. I get no cheese scent from it, thankfully. My favourite chocolate snuff is Toque’s (surprise surprise :p)
