Dholakia Sparrow

This one arrived yesterday, 50 grams from Mister Snuff, on the recommendation of one of this forum’s more prolific posters. I must say, I always thought that apart from the White Indians, Indian snuff was dark and oily. It was true for the first other Indian snuff that I tried, so I assumed it was true for all of them. Silly of me. This one is dry and fine, although nothing like as dry and fine as Dholakia White. It is almost exactly the same colour as my favourite brand of powdered cocoa, an attractive light brown. It has a neutral tobacco flavour, with just a hint of the flavour of the White in it – something like if you took six parts of Toque Quite and blended it with one part DW, or less. The flavour doesn’t linger long, it’s quite clean and neutral. It’s fairly strong, perhaps a bit stronger than Quit. The burn is noticeable and pleasant, but nothing like White. I like this one a lot. It would make a good all day snuff for people who like unscented, strong, dry, fine snuffs. Funny pricing structure, I was going to get 25 grams, but it was something like $5.50 for 25 and $6.68 for 50, so why not go for 50? For those looking for economically priced snuffs, that’s a pretty good deal. It doesn’t seem to be available in bulk, but that’s almost a bulk price anyway. I think I may well put in an order for eight tins.

I just read the reviews on Mister Snuff. Interesting, one reviewer said, jokingly, that while it was an unscented snuff, it must have been made with machinery that had previously been used to make a scented snuff, because of just a hint of Indian incense in the background. Well, maybe. I don’t think I’d notice it if I wasn’t looking for it. Other comments are that it is VERY strong. Hmm, I guess. I would have said medium-strong, myself. Anyway, thoroughly recommended, even if, like me, you have been a bit dubious about Indian snuffs after trying one that you didn’t like. (DISCLAIMER: I don’t like thick incense like scented snuff!)

Sparrow and Sparrow Cool were my well kept secret, now you gone and let the cat out of the bag.Smart Idea to get more before the batch changes. Although I have so much snuff and more new snuff hitting the market ,I am not that worried. You snuffers used up all the great Sg black coffee but other greats were born to fill the bill. cafe11, grado, fugazi, coffee kick to name a few.

@basement_shaman: Hehe. Sorry about that. Whistle-blowing and leakers are everywhere. I’m getting more and more into the Sparrow, I don’t think I took anything else yesterday, except a few scraps of Cheeta and some Cafe 11. I have to say, I think I should revise my opinion about Sparrow being “medium-strong” upwards to “strong”. After a snuff-free hour last night, I took two large pinches and felt that warm sensation and the slightly elevated pulse rate that some people describe as a “nicotine rush”. I don’t think I ever get that, even with Dholakia White. I’m guessing Sparrow Cool is a mentholated version?

Sparrow Cool is mentholated, but it’s not overpowering like some of the other menthol snuffs. Very delicate and you can still smell the underlying tobacco base.
