O.K. I’ve tried a few of their snuffs for the first time a couple of days ago and I have to say I’m impressed. I’ve got the aniseed, medicated and the Sparrow Cool. They seem to have some decent strength to them and the way they marry the scents to the tobacco, a nice balance without being overwhelming for my tastes, is really good. I’m now looking forward to trying their White and Black as well. Another interesting thing is that these snuff don’t seem to leave me plugged up like other snuffs I’ve used in the past. Maybe they’re just stronger so I’m less inclined to indulge them as frequently? Anyway, are any of the other Indian snuffs worth giving a try such as the 5 Photo snuffs? What is that snuff for smokers called? I’d like to put that in an order as well.
I was just going to post something on this myself before I read your post. Not too long ago, I was having alot of nasal congestion issues with using snuff. I almost quit using it. But I have recently been only using traditional Indian snuffs, and I have not had any of those problems at all. I just did a big 2 pincher of Super Himalaya. I recommend all the Indian snuff, mainly the traditonal recipes. Dholakia Ganga, which I’ve been using daily. Manjul, Kamal, the Sparrow is great too, I love the Cool. The Black, the White. I also really like the Sun Snuffs, except Rangeeli, I just didn’t like it, and have since gotten rid of it, maybe it’s better for teeth cleaning. But the other 4, are excellent. The 5 Photo Snuffs are excellent. I love traditional Indian snuffs, and I am snuffing and collecting them exclusively. They don’t congest me, I am an Indophile, and it can sometimes be a challenge to find them, plus it narrows down my hoader issues. The smoker’s snuff, I think you mean QWS Smoker’s Blend? That’s not bad either. Though personally, I am just using the traditional Indian styles.
Wow! That’s a pretty strong recommendation and validation of what I experienced. I think I’ll get a good sampling of the Indian snuffs then. Thanks.
Dholakia’s Kamal, Manjul and Ganga are really top notch for incence type Indian feel.
So I’m wondering here, since I’ve had two very different experiences with the Dholakias, does anyone have any advice for me… I tried the Dholakia Medicated, and couldn’t stand the scent- I mean the menthol, camphor, whatever were OK, but the scent of the base tobacco, was probably my least favorite snuff experience to date, I tried to get used to it a few times to no avail. However I thought the Sparrow (non- medicated) was actually pretty pleasant, and I would like to try more Dholakia’s that are of a similar vein. Would I maybe like the Sparrow Cool, or the Black or White, or Ganga or Manjul etc? I’ve tried the QWS ice cool and found it a middle of the road not too bad scent, as it has some of the Dhol-Med scent but much more in balance, and much more palatable. I don’t mean to offend here, I just want to use constructive criticism to find more favorites. Thanx!
I would also offer a ringing endorsement of the Dholakia snuffs. As an ex full strength menthol smoker, the Sparrow Cool is the only snuff I’ve ever used that gives me a similar sensation to smoking the kinds of menthols I liked: a little menthol and a strong tobacco flavor. The Regular Sparrow is fanatastic straight tobacco as well. The White and the Black are more problematic: the White is very, very fine and difficult to take, and has an incredible burn and a huge nic hit, and an unusual aroma to say the least. I find it irresistable. The Black has a strong “agricultural” scent that I didn’t like at first, but which I now love. The Kamal and Manjul are amazingly great scented snuffs, the Manjul is arguably the best clove based snuff around. I’m fanatical about the 5Photo blends; The Himalaya, the Special and the Super Himalaya are among the finest highly scented snuffs I’ve ever used. The Raja is like an Indian Schmalzer, but I don’t think it’s currently available. It either smells like a urine cake, or some fantastic concord grape/fig concoction, depending on who you talk to.
Mr O, the traditional Indian Line snuffs of Dholakia are finer grind than their others, like their Medicated, which is coarser, and has a sweetness to it, to me.
@ LHB: you are right. It is sold out. Which means a lot of folks have it! I would hope to hear more opinions on it than just mine and yours. Mine is only first impression, of course, not a proper review. That will come in time.
Maybe if/when Nicrush get’s some more, he can get that other 5 Photo snuff too, that he doesn’t have. I’d get it. I really like the Raja #5, I wish I got more than just one now, but I didn’t know what to expect. I get a very slight coolness from it.
I am really enjoying the Indian snuffs, although it has been the 5 Photo ones that started me off on Indian snuffs. I have all four of the ones on NicotineRush and love all of them. I am also enjoying the Dholkaia Kamal snuff, great stuff. I also use the Black but cannot say I really enjoy the scent very much, smells like manure to me but has a very nice nicotine hit to it. The White is one I am working with but so far have been unable to really snuff much of it without it feeling like my nose is on fire and my head is going to explode.
I love Dholakia snuffs (the originals) and will stick to them. I don’t want any other Indian snuffs.
Pieter, you don’t like the Himalaya?
The only Indian Snuffs I’ve tried are Dholakia, Sun and 5Photo. That makes for about 15 snuffs that are in my regular rotation though. By “non-Indian’s” I do mean Dholakia’s misguided attempts to attract the “trendy” crowd like the brands you mentioned.
@Juxtaposer, I’ve never tried the Himalaya. Problem is I’ve got so much snuff, I don’t want to order anymore until I’ve made a good dent in my stock. Might take a couple of years.
I decided to collect and snuff, exclusively Indian snuffs. I have traded and sold off all the others I had. I did this because, I really like Indian snuffs, and I’m not a heavy all day snuffer, and what I have now, would probably last my lifetime, and it curbs my hoarding/collecting impulse some, plus seeking the ones I don’t have, can be a challenge.
