i searched for Dean, for Own, etc didn’t see a topic for this one so here goes: I got a little tin of this as part of my MarsCigars order (which had the actual intent of just getting czech tools and pipe nails but needed more things to make the buy worthwhile) and I got the smallest tin available of “Dean Swift Dean’s Own” the first thing is the little tape around the tin left a huge awful gummy spot running around the entire perimeter of it, so bad and bothersome to my fingers (and realizing it would instantly also make a nice super gummy mess out of any snuff that got on that gummy spot) I had to instantly decant it into my trusty former S’nuff tin (which is about the same size and style). While I was working out how to get the awfully gummy tape remainder off (do all Dean Swift tins do this? what a mess!) but how to leave the labeling in tact I took a nose hit of this very very fine powdered snuff… Jebus what a mess there too I’m afraid instantly made my nose burn in a most unexpected way and then proceeded to clog that nostril right up and set up a little running. I don’t even know what it actually smells like yet I’ve been just too annoyed with the whole thing to even notice Once I get done being quite so annoyed with all of this (the can the unexpected initial bad experience with the snuff itself) and once I can feel satisfied I’ve salvaged its little tin (I really need these little tins like this, I use them for a 'por man’s snuffbox and mixing and thats part of what motivated me to try this, looking for another S’Nuff type little tin I can use this way) I’ll give it another go in a little bit and if my findings (on the very snuff itself) are any different I’ll update here. UPDATE – second testing has a lovely scent of… plastic… and I don’t even know how that’s even possible given as it came in a metal tin, was transferred to yet another metal tin and I’ve used metal tools from which to sample it… go figure Its not even a remotely good plastic smell (there are actually a few in the world) a slight scent of barbie doll parts, possibly slightly melted barbie doll parts, a slightly gross vinyl sort of smell
You can remove the gummy residue by wiping it with lighter fuel - it will dissolve the glue quite easily. I don’t like Dean Swift snuffs at all, any of them. Some of them have great names - Bezoar, Cameleopard, Inchkenneth etc. but they all taste disgusting to me. Speaking of disgusting, Google ‘Bezoar’!
I like their Strawberrry, but that’s about it.

Dean’s Own is the only one I thought was pretty good. Its just a plain SP type much like J&H Wilson Top Mill. Not to be confused with Dean Swifts SP which bears no resemblance to any other SP I’ve ever had. Inckenneth was not bad, it was like French Carotte and a floral tone. The rest all have menthol and are pretty horrible.
Yeah it smells like nothing. Not only are dean swifts evil and terrible over priced snuffs. I also get the impression all stock of dean swift is half as old as god (might have been good back then.)
okay I’ll take it under advisement that if OTD (aka “Older Than Dirt”) should suddenly stop posting and vanishes from the 'net we might assume he’s been ground up for still more Dean Swift snuff – especially if he happens to be wearing a old raincoat when they catch up with him (“smells like nothing” would be better than the distinct smell I get of crappy old vinyl).

Dean Swift Apricot was one of my first snuffs. No menthol in that one, and it’s frankly one of the tastiest snuffs I’ve had the pleasure to put in my nose. Not an overabundance of nicotine, and expensive as hell, but I love it.
yeah aprioct is definatly the top of their line in my opnion. Though if you like that one try wilsons very similar but I think wilsons is better. Also has more of a kick to it.
After michael Jackson’s death his nose was rushed by ambulance to Legoland. It was melted and reused. It is insidious and has permeated the world. That may be the plastic smell.

I’ve had a tin of Deans Own for quite a while. I can’t get the tin open so I use it as a paper weight. X( X( :((
AANYCAARDS always glad to save you money perique I envy you. I’ve always wanted Michael Jackson’s nose or some part of it as a paper weight. If you open the can and do a moon dance then my speculation is proved. But if so always have a chaperone when you are around children.
