De Kralingse

Today I have been enjoying my new samples from Molens de Kralingse. I must say that these are indeed excellent snuffs. However can anyone tell me what “A/P” stands for and also what “Ao” in Latakia Ao 1860? Now I sheepishly have to say, please don’t yell at me for not reading past threads. I have read MANY past threads. I also have done a search but either got too many or to few results. Hopefully one of you can spout off a quick answer. Thanks all.

How is the latakia tobacco?? I’ve heard good things about it, but havn’t tried any myself. I can’t help you with your questions about Molens’ snuff names but can tell you that latakia tobacco itself comes from an eponymous port in Syria, and it is smoked over pine or oak, if thats of any interest :stuck_out_tongue:

Its outstanding. I read that blurb about Syria in a past post. Do a search for titles with “A/P” and you’ll find it. There seems to be some confusion in that post on what Latakia truly is. Apparantly its not a specific type of tobacco, but named for a process that was done to a particular type of tobacco. Maybe kind of like how all sparkling wines are generically reffered to as champagne, even if they were not grown in Champagne, France. There are plenty of great comments about these snuffs in past posts, so have a search and a good read. I also just wrote reviews of them for Snuff Store’s website.

I have recently ordered a tin of Molens Pompadour snuff, just to give the company a whirl.I have seen their snuff for sale on many sites, but have never gotten around to trying them. They were out of Latakia Ao 1860, the one I really wanted to try, so I settled for Pompadour. I am very anxious to try it. ~Snuffy

Pompadour is a lovely clove snuff, with other spices. You won’t be dissapointed. Stefan

Hello Xander, A/P stands for Abies and Pinus, the latin names for spruce an pine trees. The Ao in 1860 stands for the latin Anno Domini, which means the year of our Lord. It is added to the name Latakia, because the snuff is manufactured according to a recipe which dates from that year and the snuff resembles the flavour of the Latakia tobacco. For more information about our snuffs see the (snuff)shop on the English part of our website www.snuifmolens.nl Jaap Bes.

Many Thanks Jaap, I also wondered what AP was for, and a great snuff that I buy from Tim & Julia @ snuffstore. Tot de volgende keer.

Ahh I can’t wait to try this AP one, the name excites me, is there real pine/fir essence in the snuff or does it come from smoking the tobacco over these conifers?? It sounds very unique; Ive just ordered some at snuffstore

Excellent Jaap! Thank you very much. I must have missed the part on the website about that. And thank you very much for the wonderful samples and the nice brochure! They arrived Saturday. @ oaxaca: I highly recommed that you try both A/P and Ao 1860. Order directly from Jaap, or you can buy on Snuff Store. I just wrote reviews for Snuff Store on both, so you can see what I think. The pine is really pronounced in the A/P. You’ll smell it before you open the package!

I’am awaiting some pompadour too. can’t wait already love the latakia ones muchly

I just got some Pompadour a couple days ago. It is a very nice snuff. It’s got a nice clove flavor, and they’ve managed to tone it down a bit so you don’t blow your head off every time you take a sniff. It reminds me of their Prins Regent, with clove added. I really need to get more of their snuffs, they haven’t let me down yet.

Yeah, I need some more of them too. I only have 4. Are there something like 14 of them now? Good stuff, but painful on throat drainage. Have to remember to blow. I also need to lay low for awhile or the wife will have me out on my ear. Maybe it becuase I’m buying it so fast. Is 120 odd snuffs too many to collect in 4 months time?

yes/no

I just ordered more snuff last night. 18 snuffs from Snuff Store, and 12 from Nicotine Rush. I now have 5 different orders on the way. This is getting a bit ridiculous. I’ll be getting 4 more De Kralingse snuffs, including their tobacco free Potpourri snuff. That one sounds like it will be great.

Huh?

I know how you feel, Leman. I’m trying to hold off on another order, but I’m finding it hard to do. There’s just too much stuff out there to try.

Oh well, I’ve spent more money on worse things before. After these orders arrive, I think I’ll have every Gawith Hoggarth snuff available.

Also just started with their Prins Regent. Very nice pot-pourri aroma, good nicotine, easy to take, coarse but quite dry. Easy to dispense, but those plastic containers are a bit big! Wasn’t tempted to try the Pompadour as I don’t like clove much. I also have their Macouba which I haven’t tried yet.

Btw, a great Latakia snuff is Tranters latakia - very dark and smoky. My tin is about 20 years old so I don’t know if they even still make it, if they do its well worth a try…
