Damn! Random customs seizure

Damn! I’ve been waiting for ages for my order of 4 x 50 grams of HDT and 2 x 15 grams of Abraxas Firedrac. Today, a suspiciously light package arrived. Fingers trembling, I opened it up to find a SINGLE tin of HDT and no Firedrac, accompanied by an official looking notice from Customs saying that my shipment had exceeded the permissible limit (not stated) and that the appropriate action had been taken. Only the second time in a number of years of importing tobacco that I’ve experienced this, the other time was with several kilos of pipe tobacco. Sialan! as we say in Indonesian. I thought snuff was safe because they didn’t know what it was. On a brighter note, my package of two jars of Prince Regent turned up at the same time, unmolested. But I gnash my teeth for the missing Firedrac.

That sucks.

Sorry to hear that. Seems like a customs agent has taken up snuffing.

Ah, it’s like a shark attack. You can swim all your life and never get bitten. But why the hell did it have to be the Firedrac?!

Lol… maybe the customs agent is a member here???

Pah. Well, as I said, the Prince Regent arrived, so it’s not all gloom and doom. Tragic if they got that. Irreplaceable.

I hope my gift doesn’t get pinched.

That stinks. When a shipment is seized, @JakartaBoy‌, does that mean it’s burned by the Excise officers or do you have the ability to ransom it for the price of the undeclared duty?

My condolences indeed. That is truly frustrating!

Oh, man! That’s a shame. :-/ I’m glad you did get your other Snuff to smooth things over some. I imagine we’d be hearing a lot more about it if it was happening on a regular basis so perhaps you’ve had your one bad experience with customs this lifetime. I’ve heard plenty about vape gear and e-liquid disappearing within the USA. Some vendors have gone so far as to only offer USPS tracking which costs the customer more. And I once received an empty box that had been opened on route. USPS taped it up again and stamped it with a message saying it arrived at my zip code opened. It seems like that only ever happened around the Christmas holidays in the past.

Bastards!

Thanks for the commiserations, guys. But I feel better about it today. I do have the option of going through a friend with an official tobacco import license, although that would add about 50% to the cost, at least. And he likes to order from 4noggins, so I’d have to sweet talk him into going with another supplier AND convince him that snuff is a legal form of tobacco. Considering the seizure rate is around 5%, I think the odds are better just taking a risk. @chefdaniel, I would have been very sad if it had been your care package. Let’s hope lightening doesn’t strike twice.
