I am an “earl grey” fiend. After the recent revelation that Roderick and company entertain custom orders… I have two ideas that my mind keeps coming back to. Before I plunk down the cash for a custom order, I was wondering if I could enlist some critical thinking from the community.
SP Toast - Natural Toast base with SP Extra’s scent. Similar to Lime Toast, but with a big hit of bergamot instead of lime. (I can only imagine a proper SP Toast would already be available if it worked well… So what am I missing?)
Toque Quit SP - Quit base with bergamot. Seems like it would be rich and velvety. Mmmm
I’ve always thought that SP Extra is an SP on the quit base… they look identical and I get the same nicotine from both. As for a toasted SP that would be WoS IHT #20.
Haha, ok, glad I asked about Quit SP before embarrassing myself. :">
Could be my ignorance again, but WoS IHT #20 doesn’t strike me as a toast. I really love it, but the grind and nose feel are very similar to WoS’s other SPs. I just don’t get the toasty buttery nutty smoky essence from the base tobacco that I want. I’m picturing the SP Toast as a mirror of Lime Toast… so toasty, but still holds a strong citrus scent.
SP Extra Special A strong bergamot with lime would be nice, possibly a slight touch of orange or grapefruit. Loaded with Rustica is always nice. I’m not sure how much you want to change it, though it would be nice to have a darker scent which would pronounce the bergamot and lime.
The good thing with Toque’s snuffs being so simple in design, is that they open themselves up to mixing to suit your own tastes. There’s nothing to stop you experimenting mixing Lime Toast with SP Extra, or SP Extra with St Clements, or Natural Toast with Grapefruit, and then adding in Rustica to suit your own needs. I mix a lot of snuffs at home, just one snuffbox at a time to suit my mood that day. There’s no need to pursue a custom batch when it’s something you can produce yourself from the ingredients already available. The reason I pounced on the custom Spanish Gem was the coarser grind. This is one modification you cannot do at home.
Orange and Rosemary (Neroli might work better than a standard orange). Aside from that, if Sharrow Mills have decided to bow out of doing the Frederick Tranters range, and the Mullins and Westley range… :-"
@Sandwhichlsles If I may be able to get in on that custom with a measly 50g that would be awesome, I’m just limited due to my location. Tonquin does sound a very nice blend, first time trying Elmos Reserve the other day and very quickly became one of my favorites. I have not tried Berwick Brown yet though it has been on my list for awhile, I may just have to bump it up a few. I wonder if Roderick can alter the drip taste, that could be interesting.
Tonqin is love/hate. I love it, 1792 is one of my favorite pipe tobaccos and Elmo’s was my all day every day snuff for a long time. I believe the vanilla-esque scent in SGO is tonquin unless roderick tells me otherwise and would love a toque snuff (on the regular or coarse grind) with a huge tonquin blast like elmo’s.
