Mold in Creme de Figue has now been isolated to one of the raw ingredients. As one of the blends used in Auld Alliance came from the same source, I have removed it from sale. I sincerely hope Auld Alliance will not suffer the same fate, but please PM me if there is a problem.
I was just about to buy some AA too!
I ordered some at the weekend. Hope it’s already heading this way…
That was quick! It’s obvious you are very serious. I might have to try some of your snuff some day.
I was just going to get some , sorry to hear this!
Should I not be using my CDF and AA? I only use them before bed, so I imagine it will take a while to get through them and I would really hate to have to toss them.
@EricJ Don’t throw them out unless they are actually mouldy! Mould smells nasty but it won’t do you any harm (think penicillin, blue cheese etc.), so keep using them. You will notice if there is a problem.
All credit to Johnny for this swift action - it’s truly miserable when something like this happens. It would be very easy to let doubt in your products, and abilities, to very quickly close you down, especially when it’s one of your first commercial snuffs: taking even one small batch to market equals a great deal of effort. I know he’s taking the steps he needs to - and there’s no hiding that this type of venture has a massive learning curve with nothing more than fragmentary written sources to rely on and no tutorials for commercial production - and I know all the positive and kind comments from the SH members will have helped enormously. I’m not involved in Johnny’s business but, being in the same game, and only a year further on than him, I know what this takes out of you. CdeF and AA are great snuffs and when the recipe has been stabilised they will still be great snuffs. And well done Snuffhouse.
I have to agree with every point made by Abraxas. My Auld Alliance never had a chance to grow mold, as I have been using it at record pace. I had planned on saving my money and placing a much larger order on AA. If I could afford it, I could easily make this an all day, every day snuff. That pure tobacco sweetness and aroma is exactly what I’ve been looking for recently. I hope that both AA and CdeF make it back to the market soon. Best wishes to Sir Johnny as he navigates through these issues.
Used up my AA long before there was any chance of mold, but I had to toss half a jar of CDF. Was quite disappointed.
Eric J - I see you are replying to a post written by Faust in March. Please tell me when you purchased the CdeF. Johnny
