Was researching and found a few cool documents which discuss the history of the old Garrett snuff mill, Lorillard’s and Helme.
You can find them all here with a search for “snuff mill” : https://npgallery.nps.gov/SearchResults?search_param=all&allFields=snuff+mill&view=grid&allFieldsFormat=AllWords&PageSize=60&filters=default
What’s interesting to me is this article mentions how Rappee, Irish and Maccoboy were soley made for oral use/dipping:
" Rappee, Irish, and Maccoboy are three such, types. These
snuffs appeared solely for dipping in the early 19th century. The
original finely-milled snuff was dry, called Scotch snuff-- an
unflavored, unscented, powdered tobacco. "
