Ah, us egotistic human beings! Never caring for the future of children and everyone living in this planet! Polluting sky and water with our industry, improving our life on the misery of others… And it seems that our creations share this very egotism! Snuffs also contaminate, and they pollute the most sacred substances… other snuffs! Reading a thread where Packard’s was mentioned, I felt that I must comment that while it’s an interesting snuff in itself, their boxes suffer from an important design flaw: snuff leaks to the dispensing contraption even when you shake the tin a tiny little bit, and some small particles always remain attached to it. From there, its pungent smell marches on a conquering way to any tamer snuffs near. When I picked my dear Klostermischung, it smelled like it was threaded upon by the terrible force of Packard’s blitzkrieg, smelling faintly to bay leaf and menthol and not at all to the rich rum and coffee I’ve always loved. Even the naughty monk was sad: I’d swear I saw a lonely tear falling from his cheek in despair, while he mused on the futility of life and the terror of bloody conquest. So be warned! Keep the Packard’s at bay, don’t let them pollute the grounds you love! Have your snuffs ever suffered from some hideous cross contamination like that? Any tips to prevent it that don’t include decanting the stuff (impossible with Packard’s Club) or keeping snuffs stored in different containers? (I say this because I have to travel between different locations and I like to take my portable snuff container ™ with me)

I always keep my medicated snuffs together in a tightly closed glass jar, and apart from the rest. Vacuum sealed glass jars are ideal containers. Medicated are somehow “toxic and infectious” to other snuffs. It´s a hard lesson to learn :((

@snuffvillian, @basement_shaman: Thanks for the tip. I have always reserved jars for bulk schmalzler, now I’ve gotta get some more. It is a pain to have to apply this appartheid, but I think non-medicated will feel less threatened this way!

I have a couple medicated/mentholated snuffs in my stash and they sit right next to a few tins of SP, apricot and I believe a few other random ones, but I have yet to suffer any cross-contamination. And this is despite my near constant shuffling of tins and refilling my to-go’s over top of the box in which they all live in peaceful harmony.

Intentional cross scenting can work wonders but unintentional contamination is almost always a fatal scent. Most of this type of cross contamination can easily be remedied by keeping bastards separated. The best I have suffered was the cross contamination from within a package of Indian samples.

@SgtJon: I’ve had no problem with tins except for snuff getting rancid when a Wilson’s tin rusted. The problem are them damned tapboxes, specially the Packard one (that exhales vapors like a dragon) and the Bernard’s, which can last forever if properly stored but seem specially affected by strong smells.

Since we are discussing tap boxes and cross-contamination, I will tell you that my experience mixing Poschl Gawith Apricot and Poschl Gletscherprise was absolutely horrible for me. Something about the two scents together was dreadful for me. Separate they are great, but I will never mix those two again.
