Conspiracy?

This quote was taken from a comment @Roderick made in the Movies thread: “Bit of inside gossip, there is a rumour that one of the big tobacco companies has completed a study showing snuff sales possibly reaching 20-25% of tobacco sales in the USA by 2012. Has anyone else heard this and got any evidence? Or is it complete nonsense? Maybe they mean smokeless generally, which must be close to that anyway.” Hmmm. Maybe this is true? Think there was some vested interest or financial motivation behind them running Tom out of the picture? This might seem paranoid, but anyone that’s been following the tobacco/ecig politics would agree that things like this are happening EVERYDAY. Nobody wants a 25% pay decrease, so why not get rid of the competition? They tried it with ecigs, so why not snuff- ESPECIALLY if it’s predicted to hurt cigarette sales in the near future… GAH! If anyone’s reading this that is anti-snuff or anti-ecig… goodluck taking these things away from me. It ain’t gonna happen!

I think they are talking about moist snuff. Skoal/Copenhagen/Grizzly

Besides, Tom sold OPS (other people’s snuff) he didn’t produce his own…

I think GOHAWKS is right, where I live it seems like there is almost as many chewers as there are smokers.

I have definatly noticed a rise in dipping over cigarettes amongst my friends.

The media in the US tends to use the term “snuff” to mean dip or moist snuff, something that should have its own name, but is best descirbed as lip tobacco. I think they are 99% oblivious to the existance of nasal snuff. Unfortunatley this causes confusion, particularly for UK natives who might read such articles.

I thought it was Tom that contracted Dholakia to make the FUBAR line.

I thought it was the other guy. Could be wrong.

It was the ‘other’ guy.

I assume you mean Dave Otherguy.

yes

Regardless whether it’s dipping snuff or nasal snuff the article referred to, big interests are virulent in quashing competition as @transistor said. The goings-on around trying to kill ecigs would make a cynic out of anyone. I’ve no surprise that they’d do the same with any competition, whether it’s dipping or our preferred tobacco.
