Considering a purchase

Hi everyone, I’m a 22 year old broker at the NYSE. I’ve been smoking between 3-6 cigs a day for the past 4 years and have been fine with that habit. With how stressful work can be and busy, I sometimes can’t leave for a smoke. I get anxious, can’t concentrate at all, and dizzy. I was hoping nasal snuff would cure this problem if I could take a couple hits of this, I could go without for a little longer. For example, I would like to have a cig at 8, 10 30, 1 , and 4. A lot of days I have to do 8 then 12 or 12 30. Which is hard, really hard. Will nasal snuff make me feel 100%? I’m not a fan of snus. Makes me feel feared dizzy and not myself. I don’t even like the cig buzz it just helps me think clearly, maybe cause it hits my addiction. I like that nasal snuff supposedly only lasts as long as a cig. Please offer any input you can I just want to take care of this problem. And FYI I’m good with my cigs, I’ve kept it at this range for 4 years and am cool with it.

And if you think you can give very specific opinions feel free to message me. Again, I appreciate all of your advice!

The only way to know is to try it. Try it in your off time first and if it looks like it would work you have the advantage that you can snuff on the floor. You don’t have to leave like when you want to smoke.

Agreed but do you think it’s even worth trying? And where do I buy it. And should I get a bullet. I’m lost here

It’s definately worth trying, bud. It’s just so hard to really steer someone in the right direction as everybody’s tastes differ so much. The best advice I can give you is to go here http://www.toquesnuff.com/ and get a 10 for 9 sampler pack. Toque has some very new nose friendly snuffs, and free shipping. Pick 10 flavors that sound appealing to you, and maybe throw in another flavor in one of their acrylic bullets, as their very inexpensive. This won’t kill your wallet, and you can get a sense of whether or not you like snuff, and bullets. If you don’t like it, you won’t be out a heap of money, and with all the Toque fans around here you can throw them up on the trade thread, and trade for other flavors to try. I hope this helps get you started man. Like I said, with no idea what you might like, it’s kind of hard to suggest varieties. But one suggestion as far as that goes…the fruit scented Toques are very newbie friendly, so definately put a few of those on your order.

definatly try snuff. It does help since it’s nicotine and it’s good nicotine. One of the things that is awesome about nicotine is that it does help the mind think calmly and clearly. Sounds though like the stress level of the job might not be something you want to keep up with into the later stages of your life. Not my bussiness though so. And get a bullet since they’re cheap they can be usefull and it isn’t like you’d be married to using it. Heck snuff is cheap.

Toque also sells a snuff with a nigh nicotine count, Toque Quit. Haven’t tried it but I’ve heard it is rather nice. But from what I’ve read and personal experience, Snuff does not give you the head rush snuss or a cigarette gives, but more or less levels out your nicotine craving. I recommend at least giving it a try, it may not break your habit of smoking but it may put a damper on it. Best of luck.

I hate to say it, because I do believe it’s a great company and their free shipping can’t be beat, but I have a nose reaction with Toques, but this just shows certain snuffs affect different people differently. But I would get a smallish tin, 10g, of something nice and easy like cherry menthol. If you try a local shop, you might find some Poschls there, I’m not sure if they are clearing them out, or just not getting more, but those are easy to use. I would not recommend a bullet.

I advise you to use the search facility, there are lots of discussions that you will find helpful. The vast majority of us have found snuff to be an exceptional replacement for other tobacco forms. We cant say what you should do because we are all different: the best thing to do now is to do some general research on the site and get back to us with any specifics. You’ll find just about everything you could ask has been many times, with responses varying between one liners and essays. The two stores to the right of the page can provide everything you need. Mr Snuff also has some very good general info on there. Good luck.

I recommend SPs and menthols to beginners.

The advantage to the Toque 10 for 9 deal is that it allows you to try a lot of flavors without spending much money. As has been mentioned, most Toque snuffs (but not all) are pretty newbie-friendly. But you can certainly order from any of the online vendors, and get good service. Since you’re in the Big Apple, you could try to find some snuff at local tobacco shops, although not many carry it, and those that do may not have much of a selection. I think there’s a thread around here somewhere discussing what’s available in Manhattan. If memory serves, Barclay Rex and Davidoff were mentioned as possible stores to check out.

Michael - I used to smoke; I find one good pinch of some stronger snuffs can deliver a beter “buzz” than whole cigarettes [when I quit, my favourites were the full-strength US gold-box Benson & Hedges [very different to the UK variety]]. Snuffs vary in style enormously; a starter list might include: Wilsons of Sharrow Best SP or Snuff Store’s ‘house’ SP : a good “plain” snuff; Pöschl’s Red Bull : menthol, fruit, spices - a tad artificial like Dr Pepper or Red Bull drink; quite a high nicotine lift; very easy to take; McCrystal’s JIP : strong menthol & medicated with a serious nicotine high; Fribourg & Treyer’s Dr J R Justice : a mix of a couple of their classics, as prescribed by the late James Robertson Justice himself; deep, rich, warming, full-hearted; Ozona Raspberry: slightly artificial raspberry with a touch of menthol - very easy to take; Samuel Gawith’s Raspberry : a surprising taste of real, wild raspberries, with that slight “just ripe” tang. Can be a little dry - take care when you first try it! Half a dozen in that list that are quite easy to take, satisfying, and a range of styles and nicotine levels. If you find you like the plain tobacco varieties, and want something like a plain, good-quality cigarette with serious lift, try Wilsons of Sharrow’s Tom Buck. “Dunhill on steroids”? Bullet? I don’t. A pinch or a dose delivered from a snuff spoon, onto the flesh between thumb and forefinger, tidily separated into two small piles [one for each nostril] and gently drawn into the nose with the lightest of sniffs works well. If it gets into the sinuses or down to the mouth and throat you’re sniffing way too hard. the soft part of the nose [front half-to-two-thirds] is where it should sit. You can enjoy the aroma from there, the nose walls absorb the nicotine quickly, and it’s not far for the bllodstream to carry it to the brain! HTH

I have to second that bullets are good for public use when you don’t have time to fidget with pinching or getting snuff on your clothes, or you don’t want to send the wrong impression to those who may be witnessing you sniff something up your nose. Some say the bullet can be harsh and cause you to over-insufflate, this is true with fine/dry snuffs. The remedy is to tap the contents onto the back of your hand (from the bullet) and snuff from there. Clean, easy, no spilling - no mess - easier to control dosage and easier to fit a bullet in your pocket than a snuffbox. I always use a bullet at work and snuffboxes at home and on my days off.

“Another good tip is the wet finger” Now where is the out of context thread at…

@Roderick I go to all that trouble to pimp your product, and you go and tell him not to buy one…I’m still getting paid though right?!

@cstokes4 LOL you beat me too it!

Right on Roderick…lol!! Regardless of the original intent of bullets, I DO believe they have their place in snuffing. Pretty much an echo of jbruckus. They’re a must for me when I’m out n about.

Although I have several bullets, I never use them. I just prefer to pinch my snuff.

@cstokes4 [and at risk of being completely off-topic]: reminds me of the song “Humdinger” by J J Cale …
