Complex mentholated snuff, any suggestions?

O&G is a fine snuff, but the original post gave me the idea he wanted something really more complex in various scents, and different, unique, and well, to me, while great, O&G was still just a basic menthol snuff. That’s why I suggested 5 Photo Himalaya, as it’s really unique, complex, while also being mentholated.

Very true Tom that Himalaya you sent me was very very nice I take it as a weekend treat. I could go through the lot in 2 weeks but I want to save it, I don’t know when I’ll get anymore. Unless you can send me some Paypal obviously to pay for it lol. Stefan

Mr Snuff is going to be carrying the 5 Photos it appears. I did/do have a semi-local Indian shop, that did have old metal tins last I was there, but one I opened was rather rusted. I ended up buying myself 2 cans from Nicotine Rush, when he got them, just to have a fresher new item.

Wouldn’t call O&G a basic menthol snuff, Tom502. I have tried quite a few basic menthols (from Wilsons, Toque and SG), but the camphor, spiceness, and citrus hints of O&G make it stand out for me. I must confess I haven’t tried the Indian snuffs you refer to. I will hunt them out though, so I can make a fair judgement.

The Prime Minister thread is active now. That one is pretty complex, and the menthol is not overbearing.

My favourite Wilson’s of this type is Honey Menthol.

Thank you all for your suggestions. My latest order just arrived and includes W of S Prime Minister, Crumbs of Comfort, SM Blue, McChrystal’s O&G, and a sample they sent me of Riley’s BM. It is interesting to note that the large tin of O&G is actually smaller than the other McChrystal’s I have. The O&G measures 2" x 3/4", while my old one is 2-1/2" x 1" and doesn’t say English Menthol, just Menthol. It is also quite a bit coarser. I’ll let you know the results after I snort all of this stuff.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this earlier. Get one menthol snuff from each snuff maker mix them up and you’ll definatly get a complex snuff. Sorry if anyone suggested the same.

@snort: Confusingly, McChrystals comes in four tin sizes: minor(3.5g), small(5g), large(9g) and extra large(21g). And tap boxes. And now sachets too apparently. Your Menthol will be an extra large tin.

I can’t believe it!! J&H Wilsons no 99 is not available in South Africa at present. Same rep who told me that there is no such thing as J&H Wilsons SP No 1 told our local tobacconist that No99 is not available now. What a lot of crap. I would like to kick his backside.

Mullins & Westley’s Keen Scented is a nice complex menthol with a hint of Eucalyptus.

Hedges is a great menthol snuff with a dark tobacco base. For sweet complexity try Bernard’s Zwiefacher–you might find it is worth a bit of nose-clogging.

SM500 is exactly like Hedges to my honker. What are your thoughts? Could be the White has blown any chance of discerning subtlety of course… Dave

After a couple of days worth of snorting my latest order, here are my thoughts: McChrystal’s O&G/ Riley’s BM- I can’t tell the difference at the moment but I like them both the best. There’s something compelling about the tobacco base and they didn’t go overboard with the camphor. This is going to be a bulk order next time. W of S Prime Minister- This one takes second place so far because it has a lot of spearmint without being as sweet as crumbs of comfort, and the menthol and tobacco come through nicely. W of S SM Blue/ Crumbs of Comfort- These two are nice but more of a specialty flavour. I’m not even sure the C of C is mentholated and the spearmint is pretty sweet for my liking. I’ve yet to try so many others so I don’t want to rush to any conclusions, but given what I have, this is what I like so far. I have only been snuffing for about a month or so now and I am having a hell of a good time of it. Thank you all for your suggestions.

the Crumbs of Comfort is not mentholated, but there is Extra Crumbs of Comfort which is mentholated, although only slightly

@Carol When I showed interest in Sparrow Cool earlier in the thread, Iggy kindly threw some in my package. It’s a little bit crazy how much this snuff reminds me of a Newport.

Sparrow Cool is totally Newport-ish. I couldn’t believe my nose!
