I’m still pretty new to snuff and have only done slight experimenting with mixing and making my own. I have read about oil and ghee being added to moisten snuff. Has anyone tried using coconut oil to moisten snuff? I was thinking this would be a great way to get a natural coconut scent while adding natural moisture. I was thinking about trying this with Latakia AO 1860, Echt Fresko or Viking Blonde. Any advice on how to go about doing this? Do I just add a tiny bit of oil to the snuff and mix it up??
coconut oil smells of coconut? i dont think it would be strong enough. though this is my worst nightmare, i think im developing peanut and coconut allergies haha. i should really find out if any snuffs that are produced use it… id say add oil and let it sit, mix it up after a day, see if youve added enough. make sure you dont add too much.
Unrefined coconut oil definitely smells of coconut. I think that it is a strong scent actually. I think I will try adding a little in, just not sure how much. I guess I could start out real small.
It works, not for long term storage though, make sure to get virgin pressed coconut oil.
Try the WOW coconut toffee, thank me later…
make sure to get virgin pressed coconut oil.
Would it matter who pressed it, they’re so hard to find these days…
@Whalen I have pressed virgin unrefined coconut oil that I was going to use. I was only going to use it for short term use. Thanks! I will also look into WOW Coconut Toffee, but I can’t place a fourth snuff order since February! Ha!!
I would only mix a small batch, oils have the tendency to turn rancid with little contamination. And if your pinching it your contaminating it. But best of luck with your project.Keep us informed.
I know whenever i go to the movies, my popcorn has a nice hint of coconut.
The coconut oil I recently picked up is pretty solid stuff, I have to literally chip it out of the jar (it’s organic but refined, the unrefined was a couple dollars more- and I was pretty broke). I guess one would warm it up a bit first?

Correct, warm it to around body temperature and it will liquefy. Coconut oil itself never really goes rancid, but it will pick up other flavors if left out. I was wondering if this would work myself - I figured that the coconut oil would solidify the snuff down to a solid mass once done. Let us know how it goes.
a drier snuff would work better I guess.
Perhaps you could try it on SG Blue Crest, it has one of the purest tobacco scents around. For adding the oil, have you considered using a small vaporiser, as used for after shave etc.? You can get empty plastic vaporisers for next to nothing at pharmacies or chemists. Add just a whiff to the surface, see how it behaves. (The oil may solidify and clog the vaporiser, I don’t know, I’ve never tried. In that case I guess you’d have to rinse it in hot water, or just put the whole contraption in warm water until the oil liquifies again.) Actually I’d like to try this myself. Some day, perhaps.
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature. I was thinking of trying this when the weather starts to heat up as the coconut oil becomes liquid in the jar. As long as the temperature is where it will stay liquid, I don’t see a problem with it clumping. I was thinking about heating it and adding liquid to the snuff. Mixing it really good. Even if it does solidify a bit, it would just create a clumpy snuff which might not be a bad thing.
