I think Berwick Brown is on the coarser and moister side than some other Toques, are there any others with a similar grind and moisture level?

M

Camphor and Clove. Its almost the same grind as BB, but with different scents. It very good, and no one else makes a snuff like it. Also, they used to have Rustica in a coarse grind, but I don’t know if they still make it. Its a real plain unscented snuff with tons of nicotine and other alkaloids.

J

What about their fruity and floral snuffs?

B

Add drops of distilled water and stir

I have found the following snuffs to be coarser and slightly moister than say the Toque toasts or Quit etc; Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Toffee and dare I say Spanish Gem. However I would say these are a far cry from something say along the lines of SG’s coarse and moist snuffs. I have found most of the Toques I’ve tried to be quite fine and relatively dry in general, and that’s what makes them fantastic!

H

Toque’s Coltsfoot snuff is quite coarsely ground (compared to the others I’ve tried, anyway), flavourful (a little like aniseed or liquorice). I found it really easy to take.

Update: Just received my Toques in the mail. The BerwicK Brown is now a finer grind, and so is the Camphor and Clove. Not a toast-like fine, but pretty finely ground. And as they were direct from Roderick, super fresh and delicious. I will in the future order directly from him; fresher, bigger sizes, cheaper shipping than MrS. I kind of was hoping the BB was the old, more rappee style of grind, but its still delicious. I had forgotten how much I liked it.

That’s interesting. This is how the grind of my Berwick Brown looks like.

If Berwick Brown has moved to a fine grind, that just makes me even more glad I bought the coarser version in bulk

@Roderick can you confirm if you have actually moved to a finer grind for these two snuffs please, or if mrmanos just received a finer ground batch than normal. Thanks in advance

I just read the above post, and I bet I just got a batch a little finer ground. Its still coarse, but it doesn’t have those little flakes it, like the first tin I tried of it, about 4 or 5 years ago. But interestingly, the Coltsfoot I also received, has the little flakes in it. They are very small flakes, but I can see them. Anyway, I like the Berwick B, never mind the grind, its still a great snuff. And BTW, so is the Coltsfoot. Its licorice-like, but it isn’t licorice. Its got a very interesting scent that I can’t use too much of at once, but its still really good.

Many thanks for the clarification @mrmanos Great to hear the formulation seems unaltered. To me this is by far @Roderick 's greatest product, and one I keep coming back to no matter what the mood, weather, or season. Definitely one of my “desert island” snuffs. I do have the Coltsfoot too, but that’s an “occasional” snuff for me

A

I found the floral, ginger, and espresso snuffs fairly moist, though still fine.

M

Even if my tin of Coltsfoot is perhaps a little finer grind than I had in the past, its still fantastic. I find the scent complex and unique. I watched a review on You Tube where the guy was saying it was licorice scented, and warning viewers that unless they really like licorice, to steer clear of it. It is quite different than licorice, and has an “herby” undertone that develops in the nose. I guess I ran off topic here… a common flaw in my comments…

@mrmanos your comments might be off-topic, but I agree with them. The initial scent that hits me is sambuca - not just aniseed, but sambuca. To me the herbiness comes through afterwards, and there’s certainly more than one level to it. Just like drinking sambuca, I wouldn’t want to spend a whole night on it, but an occasional shot or two is very enjoyable
