Although I have not been active on SH in past year, I must rely on my comrades opinions to bring me up to date. Reviews are just not plentiful enough on certain snuffs. My favorite snuffs have always been moist coarse natural snuffs ( taxi, NTSU, Babaton, creme de fique, auld alliance, certain dekralingse ) CAN Anyone fill in on new snuffs that i may like within the past 6 months to a year that are coarse moist and natural like - not necessarily completely barnyard ( which i love ) but not overly scented. Also I noticed on a order recently that the Babaton Blue recipe changed from what I used to love to more like a Black Rappee type or a SWS Mull of Oa…not my first choice for a SWS product. ANYONE ELSE NOTICE that the Babaton Blue changed? Has it changed back ? Any other tips on freshness of snuffs ( in my likes ) and changes in recipes…would be appreciated !! I sure hope that NTSU Black comes back soon…for me as a common all day snuff…nothing beats that ammonia scent…well maybe TAXI RED…but it must be fresh… If I had my way, I could snuff auld alliance or creme de fique all day…but amounts I go through daily …that would get costly…THANKS…WISHING A HEALTHY 2015!!!
If you are looking for course, moist and natural; I would suggest that you try a Schmalzler and a Latakia.
I like Gakachelter Virginie and GH Kendal Brown for my go-to moist/coarse/dark snuffs. Viking Dark is a daily staple, SG Black Coffee gets attention along with Cafe Noir. London Brown, Scotch Black and Black Rappee are also in the mix.
SG Kendal Brown Plain/Viking Brown
GH Kendal Brown & F&T Princes; which is lightly scented (like ponzu) but nothing in comparison to other scented F&Ts.
You might try SG Menthol Black, like original BR with a light menthol that you don’t notice too much for a few minutes, but its there…not like a Hedges or Mc C’s O&G, but still really nice. I just got a tin a few weeks ago and I’m really enjoying it. Also, the Babeton Blue, I notice that its, like you said, more like a Black Rappee. It used to have a slight coconut scent in my nose. Not now. Its still nice, but I liked it more a few years ago. I had the idea the other day of drying it out and grinding it to a fine powdery consistency. I don’t think I’ll try it. Let it be. Like Chef D said, Geck Virg, London Brown, Kendal Brown are all good too.
Wilsons Brunswick is an often overlooked one that’s very very nice, I like it better than F&T’s Prince’s snuffs, it’s in the same style.
