i don’t know about you guys, but, although I’ve only been snuffing for only a year or less, i have to say that I really think that the coarse ground snuffs hold all the enchantment for me. I like coarse ground snuffs because you can really pack the nose and the scents seem to last longer and the finer the grind it seems the more it ends up in the back of the throat - of course, for some reason, there are exceptions. Who’s a coarse ground fan, as well?

S

I like them a lot, but I also like my finely ground ones as well. I have some of each that I consider must haves

B

I started out enjoying the coarse ones better, now I’ve switched to the toasts. For some reason the toasts and finely ground snuffs are easier for me to handle. Not the super fine ones like White though.

S

I’ve only had a coarser ground snuff, so I don’t know which I like better

N

I used GH Kendal Brown for my main snuff for a long time. Bought several tins at a time. Now I am in a phase of toasts and American Scotches. With the scotches you don’t have to buy so many tins. They are BIG for the price.

S

Sorry to be a spoiler but I have to go on record as being anti-coarse. I really wanted to appreciate the coarse grinds I’ve tried because they generally have some good flavors. However, they irritate my nose and end up spilling on my shirt. But to each his own so enjoy them all you want.

O

SG Kendal Brown would be the first coarse that I tried that really made an impression. Over the past month I’ve managed to sample all the de Kralingse line, with the exception of the Oranje, Prins Regent and Bon Bon. I’m a huge fan of the coarse grind!

S

I am usually not so keen on the coarse snuffs. Medium, fine and v. fine are my everyday snuffs. I will dip into a Princes or Schmalzer evry now and again though.

Z

I dip into the Bernards Schmalzlers EVERY DAY, but I do wish I could find a way to make some of them a little finer grind.

A

I like coarse grind snuffs because they NEVER clog you!

S

I’m actually looking at picking up some coarse snuff. I like my scenty snuffs like that of toques. Any recommendations chaps?

S

@ OTD: I can always count on you, pal! lol

O

@ saucy_jack: Ah, but it was you kind sir that lit the way! (-; @ Snuffin: de Kralingse, any of em’!

S

NTSU, is nice, de Kralingse, as well. SG’s coarse snuffs are the bomb. @OTD: you give me to much credit, pal. anything to help a fellow snuffer!

J

I like the way course snuff can be vacuumed without lung bagging.

X

@ snuffin: F&T Princes Special. Its the most scented of the Princes types. All are good though.

S

Sorry, I know this is going to sound quite silly however; would someone be able to write a list up of nice coarse grinds that I could buy as I’m still quite new to this and haven’t tried many different snuffs. Terribly sorry.

L

Try Samuel Gawith- Kendal Brown Scotch Scotch SP Grousemoor Fribourg & Treyer- Princes TAXI RED On the main topic - I take all kinds of snuff depending on my mood, but there is nothing like packing your nose with huge piles of coarse snuff. I love this. EDIT: Samuel Gawith Scotch and Scotch SP are coarse black snuffs. The name looks similar, but Samuel Gawith Scotch and American scotches are completely different thing.

S

Thanks alot Lyubo. I’ve been having problems with conjestion and i’ve only been trying fine grinds so hopefully this will help. Any other nice fruity scented recommendations? I do love my fruity snuffs.

L

Samuel Gawith and Toque have very good fruity snuffs but they are fine/medium gring. Try Mixing them with TAXI Red which very coarse plain tobacco snuff. Pieter Claasen says somewhere that Toque Peach and TAXI Red mix is very good.

S

Yeah I have alot of Toque, almost all of their range however, I find that they tend to block me up till the point of being unable to breath. Think it is the grind. I’ll have to try mixing them with Taxi Red, although I do like their no nonsense flavours with a lovely base tobacco. Just a shame they block me up really. Do you know of any course fruity snuffs?

S

I’m surprised to see De Kralingse snuffs generalized as coarse. I’ve used A/P and Ao and didn’t consider the grind coarse. However, SG Afterglow was very coarse in my estimation. I guess the definition of coarse is subject to interpretation.

O

The A/P and Ao are certainly a coarser grind than say the WoS or Toque products that would be considered medium… Is there a standard sieve size that delineates the grind classifications?

S

@ OTD There is: micrometer or mu 1/1000 of a milimeter. The latakia types of de Kralingse are sieved through 250 mu and the Virginia type through 400 mu. Jaap Bes.

O

@ snuffmiller: Is there an industry standard of any kind with respect fine, medium, coarse? Thanks for the info Jaap, this is really appreciated!

S

@ OTD: not to my knowledge. The way in which snuff is ground and sieved has changed quite a lot over the years. I think it also depends on the way the snuff is ground. That determines the distribution of the particles. Our Virginia types are sieved over 400 mu, but there are also a lot of particles in it which are finer than 400 mu. To find more information about that, you have to fractionate the snuff over several sieves with different width and determine the amount of each fraction. So I think a lot comes down to the grinding and personal experience of the snufftaker. Jaap Bes.

O

@snuffmiller: Well then, snuff said on that (-;_“So I think a lot comes down to the grinding and personal experience of the snufftaker.”_Well your personal experience certainly comes through in the end product as a testament of skill! Thanks again Jaap!
