What’s the most coarse grind you’ve ever seen in a snuff?

I didn’t expect a unanimous, thanks! I ordered some to check it out.

@xapken: read reviews first. Plenty of people hate it! I love it though.

Yep, already did. Pieter (spelling?) was active in a big thread on it a while back. Coarse, wet, barnyard aroma (ammonia release from aging is my guess), and quite strong. I’m very curious to see/try it. From what I gather it sounds quite similar to my “project” tobacco which I’m quite seriously looking into going into production with. I’m in an area where I have access to inexpensive raw materials.

Yes, good reading there. Pieter was able to find a supply locally a few years ago when it was still hard to get online. He passed on his bounty to us here. Don’t underestimate the power of the ammonia!

Does the ammonia smell dissipate if the tin is left open for a while, and does that have any negative consequences for the snuff?

X

From what I understand the ammonia is a natural byproduct of aging in the tin. Airing it and letting it dry a bit should have it dispersed. I’m not sure why some have this and others do not. It may have to do with the curing and if the tobacco was fermented before packaging.

I think I posted something about this but I’ll share it I had a dream a few weeks ago I had this jar of snuff that was the coarsest shit on earth! I was shovelling snuff that looked like RYO tab up my beak and it was falling all over the place. Weird…

I don’t think the South African snuffs are ground. Seems more like they are chopped.
