I am new to snuffing (I have actually used snuff to quit smoking after 16 years)… and based on some recommendations I have tried several varieties including Wilsons Extra Strong Menthol President Hedges Snuff L260 ‘The Snuff’ McChrystal’s Original Genuine Samuel Gawith SG Menthol Poschl’s Gletscherprise W. E. Garrett Sweet and Mild I like the menthols/mints even though when I smoked I did not smoke menthols, but I have to say, thus far I feel like I have liked the Poschl’s Gletscherprise the best and I mainly think it has to do with how coarse and moist it is…am I unsophisticated, is it just personal preference, can you recommend something else that is coarse and moist?
You may enjoy Polar Prise.
From what I have read Polar is fine and dry…?
Love coarse and moist! But i also like fine and dry, although fine and dry takes alot more care to sniff.
Polar Prise is somewhat fine, but is not dry.
Dholakia Medicated.
It all depends. All good but all different. If you are new to snuff keep what you like in stock but branch out. My first snuffs were also highly mentholated coarse moist poschls, but now tend to stay with English toasts and sp’s only. Each to their own!
If GP is your favorite so far, you may wish to try Sam Gawith Apricot. It’s also made by Poschl and for me a bit more interesting than GP. Although some posts here refer to these as “beginner snuffs,” they must have a following to sell as much as they do. I remember reading somewhere that Gletcheprise was the best selling brand but that was a few years years ago. BTW, congratulations on giving up cigs for a much healthier and, refined habit. You will find a lot of good information on most snuff-related topics by using the search feature here. We are pretty friendly here so do feel free to chime in on discussions!
Lowenprise. also very much like Gletscherprise in texture like the Polar prise Taxi Rock, My favorite course spearrmint Zweifacher, a must try menthol schmalzler mix Sam Gawith has a peppermint dark, I have not tried but it sounds good DeKralingse has minty snuffs made with great tobaccos also look into camphor and eucalyptus snuffs although the only course one I can think of would be the Astromina the camphorated schmalzler…
Sam Gawith Kendal Brown Menthol/Brown Menthol is coarse and moist but there’s always a risk with tap boxes.
I’ll second the Polar Prise reccomendation. Its everything Glestcher Prise tries to be. Also check out Zwiefacher from Bernard.
Rumney’s Export! Can’t leave that off the list.
@AllanH: As Brown Menthol appears to only be on sale in one Irish tobacconists I don’t think anyone has to worry about the tap boxes !
Mysmokingshop.co has 8 tins! My Smoking Shop
It may be calling itself “Menthol Black” these days, as listed on snuff.me.uk.
Yes I noticed that ‘Menthol Black’ as well. I’m sure it’s the same product. What’ll be the next incarnation?
Who knows? SG seems to change the names of their snuffs everytime they change the packaging. It makes keeping track of them confusing.
It does too ! Mind you, I don’t think I’ll be risking a purchase from mysmokingshop of a tin that must be a good few years old.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback. I just placed an order for: 1 x Spearmint Snuff Taxi Rock 1 x Lowenprise Snuff 1 x Samuel Gawith Peppermint Dark Snuff 1 x Polar Prise Snuff Bernard 1 x Samuel Gawith Apricot The recommendations I didn’t order were not available right now. I look forward to trying them all.
