Is there any harm in using very cold tap water as opposed to saline solution to flush out the sinuses? I’ve tried it twice now with one of those rubber bulbs that comes with an ear cleaning kit, and while the sensation is initially unpleasant compared to saline solution, it causes a tremendous amout of nasal discharge that actually seems to result in much clearer sinuses after a blow than when using saline solution and a neti pot. I’ve been dependent on Afrin for over 35 years, and find that the cold water when used like a neti pot has about 75% of the sinus clearing power of the nasal spray. The neti pot doesn’t decongest, nor does it seem to get my nose nearly as clean, because it doesn’t stimulate the incredible amount of natural secretions that the straight cold water does.
Try sniffing cayenne pepper. No, really try it! I do recommend grinding it a little finer though.
I use warm tap water, works very well! 
I use luke warm tap water. Not only efficient, but free. Been doing it for years with no bad effects.
I’m afraid I don’t have quite the set of grapes to snort Cayenne Pepper, but thanks for the suggestion.
I use filtered tap water left to stand to bring it up to room temperature with a pinch of table salt.
I usually have a blow, then rinse my nostrils with warm water from the tap before I go to bed, no salt or anything.
I tried the cayanne pepper once, and that was enough, and it didn’t work for me. I also used a neti pot with just water, and that was not good, for whatever reason, it hurt some, and made me have like a sore throat.
Thanks for the information. As tom502 points out, it does hurt and give you a temporary (about 5 minutes sore throat). But for me it’s worth it to get the secretions going that clear my sinuses.
I’ve used cayenne pepper numerous times for clearing sinuses, both sniffing and mixing with water and drinking it are good methods.
LHB, I use as warm warm as I can stand. Some say the Neti causes them more congestion. I’ve tried doubling up on the saline and had decent results. The pamphlet also says they run 8 oz through one nostril, and then 8 through the other.I usually just split 8 between both, but maybe try those ideas?
