Ok, just in case anyone’s interested here goes. Classic TV, or Telle (or Telly or how do you spell it?). My faves: Monty Python, Good Neighbors/ The Good Life, Are You Being Served, The Young Ones, M.A.S.H, Cheers, Sanford and Son, too many to remember at the moment!

X

My absolute favorites have to be the original Addams Family, The Munsters, and The Twilight Zone.

M

There was a time when the Odd Couple and Mash used to play back to back, in syndication, from 11 - 12 (midnight) and I watched them every night. I would sit in my room and just laugh. My parents probably thought I was crazy…

C

My favorites:

Dark Shadows

Addams Family

Munsters

Twilight Zone

Are You Being Served

Little House on the Prairie

Highway to Heaven

Leave it to Beaver

Barney Miller

Gilligans Island

Gomer Pyle

The Paper Chase

The Muppet Show

Wonder Years

S

American:

Star Trek (TOS) and The Twilight Zone, which have already been mentioned.

British:

The Prisoner is my favourite. For those who haven’t seen it, it was a 1960’s series starring Patrick McGoohan (who also devised the series) that combines a sort of spy drama with sci-fi and bizarre imagery, following the main character’s struggle against a totalitarian society in ‘the village’. It’s a lot about individuality against conformity.

I also liked GBH with Michael Palin and Robert Lindsay, a great political drama of the early 1990’s with many sub-plots and strong characters.

B

Hogan’s Heroes

Andy Griffith

Twilight Zone

Green Acres

Honeymooners

Carol Burnett Show

A-Team

Simon & Simon

Have Gun Will Travel

Stooges

(Older) Tarzan

Superman

Benny Hill

Dukes of Hazzard

I also love the older cartoons Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, and I have some of my Grandpa’s 16 mm silent cartoons he collected…love the early animation.

B

My all time favorite classic tv show would have to be The Little Rascals.

Some others I enjoyed were:

Mash

Twilight Zone

Outer Limits

Green Acres
Beverly Hillbillies

I Dream of Jeannie

Hogan’s Heros

Little House (cheesy but entertaining)

The Flintstones

The Addams Family

Cheers

Seinfeld (considered classic yet?)

I could go on and on…

J

@Sloth GBH was fantastic. There was one part where Robert Lindsey had ended up in a hotel holding a Dr Who convention, and he was followed around by a Dalek shouting "Fornicate! Fornicate! For some reason that has stuck in my memory…

My favourites:

Classic Dr Who (Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker)

Star Trek (TOS)

The Sweeney

J

@mr o   some on youtube in 10 min clips …

the brits on here would remember    rising damp .  the fall and rise of reginald perrin

M

I’ll check that out, thank’s!

Oh yeah blackadder, definitely! But I’ve only gotten through the first two seasons so far. If we include shows from the 90’s I think Absolutely Fabulous would have to be there. I think I might have seen Reginald Perrin under a slightly different name for the US market- is that the one where he has a lot of daydreams?  I think I liked To the Manor Born. What about The Odd Couple, or Mr Belvedere?

M

Should this include stuff from the 90’s? If so, I must add the X-Files!

F

I have an old TV with rabbit ears (antenna) out in the garage where I enjoy my evening pipe after the kids go to sleep. There is a station that runs All in the Family, Sanford & Son, Dragnet, Three’s Company, and others most nights. If I’m not listening to jazz or big bands on my hi-fi, that is my primary entertainment while smoking (and snuffing of course).

C

@furious:

We now have 3 stations like that here; love it.  I think down here (Orlando) they are called METV, RTV, and another I can’t recall.  We also have a movie channel that plays old obscure stuff, sometimes decent.  The joys of not having cable: simplicity.

B

+1 on R-tv

I still have a desk top rotary telephone that I use. Where will your ‘smart phone’ be in 50 years?

C

So R-Tv isn’t just down here?  Glad to see others can enjoy it.

M

We’ve  got MeTV in MN, found Honey West on there, not bad!

B

I have been watching Filthy, Rich, and Catflap. Great t.v.

M

Cool! I saw an episode that was a bonus feature on the “The Young Ones” dvd collection. I couldn’t track down any more of it at the time- his name was Rick Mayall or something? He was on “The Young Ones” before that, which imo is an absolute must- and only 12 episodes or so, it had too short of a run, but maybe they worried about it getting stale.

D

I saw Red Dwarf mentioned up top.  Man I miss that show.

I would like to see Junk Yard wars back on the air as well.

Ken

T

The avengers especially the Diana rigg ones.

A

Monty Python, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, The Prisoner, Nogging the Nog, Rhubarb and Custard, the original Tom and Jerry cartoons with the incredible artwork, The Old Grey Whistle Test. Sadly I’ve watched most of them to death, but I still laugh at Fawlty Towers even being able to quote the script doesn’t seem to stop that.

H

Classic TV is ok (one of my favorite BritComs is: Waiting for God.)

But you get better images when you listen to OLD TIME RADIO:

Yours Truely, Johnny Dollar; Barry Craig; Candy Matson; Richard Diamond; I Love Adventure; I Love A Mystery; Fibber McGee & Molly; The Great Gildersleeve; The Shadow; Mr. Moto; Gangbusters; X-1; Dimension X…

Jack Webb did 4 great shows before he started Dragnet: Pete Kelly Blues, Johnny Madero, Jeff
Regan and Pat Novak for Hire.

They tried to adapt “The Shadow” to TV, but you can’t do “invisible” on TV as well as you can on radio!

Old time radio is still out there to be heard – take a look online at:

http://www.Live365.com and do a search on “OTR”

M

howdydave, definitely some stuff to check out.  I’ve heard a little bit of it, my dad used to have some “Golden Age of Radio” cassettes. I remember W.C. Fields “The day I drank a glass of water”.

Snuffster, I would second the ones you mentioned that I’m familiar with, about half of the ones mentioned. Was The Old Grey Whistle Test a variety show? I thought I’d heard of some music acts performed on that show, or am I thinking of something else?

P

Nothing puts me in my happy place quite like “Golden Girls”. Also a vote for “Cheers”, makes me think of nights w/the family as a child.

G

I’m not aspécialist of séries, but, more recently I’ve enjoy “breaking bad” ,and, on his period “Nip, Tuck”

I like series talking of subjects taboos but always there.

I watch also"boulevard du palais" but I think it’s very confidential

B

dark shadows great show.

M

bob, have you ever seen the newer DS? It was from the late 80’s to early 90’s. Short lived, but not too bad.

W

The avengers especially the Diana rigg ones.

I love the Avengers but I actually prefer the older ones with Honor Blackman. They were more gritty yet they still contained a good bit of dry humor.

G

A series, also jewel of black humour,of the excellent Lars Von-Trier:“the kingdom”.The result is beautiful on found and form.

This is a 90’ série,a classic for my minds.

B

yeah the kingdom I only got to see a few episodes. I should look for more again cause what I saw was awesome. Only time I saw the over-used like (blank) on acid description and thought yeah that is accurate.the video box said it was like e.r. on acid.

A

I have just watched the first season of game of thrones - that will be a great classic series for the future.

G

@bob : In the same utilisation of pictures and author, but on an other register there is “breaking the waves” about love and notion of miracle, great too see.

B

I might check that out this breaking the waves. And I might even have to check out Game of Thrones. It all depends on how possible it is to watch either
