Hello! This is my first post here, so, please forgive me if this is a tired topic. I’ll be placing another order in a couple of weeks and I’m looking at trying a schmalzer for the first time… I’m looking for the most ‘decadent chocolate cake’ like one to satisfy a sweet tooth, although bittersweet cacao is very much appreciated too… my options are:

Perlesreuter
A Brazil
SF Sudfrucht
D Doppelaroma

I recently read an older Reddit comment comparing one to ‘Black Forest cake’ (rich chocolate with tart cherry) and it sounds amazing… yet I can’t find the comment/post again no matter what search term I use.

I also very much like mocha/coffee kind of flavours too… so I’m leaning toward Perlesreuter or A Brazil based on the product descriptions on Toque.

I’ve got some McChrystals Aztec arriving tomorrow and I’ll probably try some USA Chocolate too when I place my future order with Toque. Definitely going to pick up some ‘WoS Africa’ sometime, also.

I’m also very keen on trying Dholakia Swiss Chocolate… so I’m curious if @Jonny or @Kay would be kind enough to chip in and let me know if they are planning a restock on MrSnuff in the foreseeable future?!

Many thanks.

Hi and welcome.

Schmalzler Perlesreuter is coffee cake, lovely and rich with maybe a hint of a rum backnote to it. No chocolate though.
Schmalzler A Brazil has hints of dark chocoale and coffee but the dark tobacco is more to the fore front.
Schmalzler D Doppelaroma is rich fruit cake
Not tried Schmalzler SF Sudfrucht yet

Unfortunatelly Dholakia have said they are moving away from snuff production in favour of nic pouches so Swiss Chocolate is no more. Which is a damn shame as its the best chocolate iv’e tried.

That is incredibly helpful, much appreciated.

I realise that I’m just going to have to try them all eventually, they all sound really good. I think you have swayed me towards trying Perlesreuter first, I’m sure I will love it.

A shame to hear that about Dholakia… the world of snuff production is ever shrinking.

All 4 can’t be that expensive. I’ve discovered all the snuff I enjoy in bulk orders of “maybe I’ll like this.” I find snuff very inexpensive and simply bin what I don’t like. Then when I do like it, I make sure to have at least 100g on hand. Yeah, it’s a bit wasteful. But I hadn’t snuffed in over a decade and, again, it’s inexpensive. If you’re into the velvety smoothness of mineral oil, Poschl is the stuff. Despite my handle, I’ve really taken to drier more aromatic stuff, they keep my finger out of my nose.

I’d agree with all the above, expect the bin part. Too many stuffs have aged into something good from humble beginnings, to take that chance on all but a few.

GletscherPrise is my current favourite, funnily enough!

You aren’t wrong, I guess it’s more a case of what I want to prioritise first than anything else.

I only recently picked up the habit again and I used to almost exclusively buy/use Indian snuff. Now, I’m more interested in trying stuff from the ‘western world’, in a range of styles.

I have more limited means these days but I have a £50 budget for the order I’m going to place next, just over a week from now.

My current basket includes:

GH Cafe Regal
SG Pinewood Ice
SG Celtic Talisman
SG Black Arabica
Toque SP Wintergreen
Poschl Alpina
Artisan Snuff JP
Silver Dollar Scotch
Silver Dollar Medicated
WoS Irish Toast No. 22
F&T High Dry T

[edit] Ordering all four Poschl Schmalzers would come to £43.68… which is obviously doable but would take most of the months budget.

If you’re a tea drinker who spends a lot of time outdoors, throw some Lachhman Dass in that basket. Nose yoga, and you can leave your boots on. My all day snuff is Gold Rush by 6 photo. And Green Dragon is on my coffee table for afternoon (ice) tea. And strangely enough Reaper/White Walker have allowed me to detect puma urine more easily/further away. Not saying the stuff will give you super powers but the capsaicin awakened those olfactory receptors for me.

@nisam I’m a grandchild of the great depression. Taking only what I can carry is very important to me. My predecessors had to save everything and their deaths were more work than their legacy. Plus temple type rose snuffs really do smell like a hippy chicks crotch once they’re in the sinus.

What’s the difference between a hippy chick and a hockey team? A hockey team actually showers after 3 periods.

If budget is an issue just buy the ones you can get in a 25g sachet . That was sudfrucht and DoppelD last time I looked . You can’t get Schmalzer A in the sachet . I looked recently . At today’s import prices I don’t fancy buying blind in £15 pound lumps .
