@Xander had the great idea to use a normal discussion as a chat. I configured the system to update comments every 5 seconds. This should actually work. Let’s try to use this one as a chat.

It seems instant chats must require some amount of IT trickery and majic? Even when facebook was relatively new it seemed like they had trouble getting a proper chat working.

Chats produce a lot of traffic which needs to be handled very well. Especially when you have 500 million members.

I’m stuffing myself with Toque Original. This snuff just gets nicer anb better every day. I’ve been using it for more than 2 years already and it’s still the best SP for me

I find it quite good, but shelf life is short, I am more of a Tom Buck fan, I have so much in bulk now.

I have been avoiding menthols, but dig Camphor and Mild. I absolutely love O&G, but I pay a price.

Curing is what scares me off from growing my own tobacco

I ground some of my own grown Rustica last year. It was super strong but I only got about 10g!! If this years “crop” turns out the same kind of snuff, I will be happy.

I just air cure in the basement hanging upside down for a month, then over woodstove about a foot up on a wire rack for a week.

I am partial to the Thouc Lao, the rustica makes my nose run badly.

Mine is out in the Wendy House, quite dry now. I was thinking of drowning the leaves in Spanish Brandy for a while before grinding it.

That would be a great choice, let them steep and then slow evaporate, then once almost dry do a press in a wood container, or dry and grind then re wet with brandy and honey, then press in glass jar for a month.

Wish I had a real stove. I love cooking and the electric stove is a “dead animal” for me. I grew up with the Aga which burnt day and night and just needed a good shuffle morning and noon.

I live in the Forest in the middle of no where at the end of the power line. Wood stove is a real back up life saver. I ran out of fwood last year after my surgery prevented me from gathering wood, but as part of my cardio rehab I have 10 cords of seasoned oak cut and split now, 2 and a half years normally. But I am burning my emergency Locust now at night, hot and long lasting, snow tomorrow.

Woodstoves are the only way to go there is no heat like wood heat

Wood heat is nasty, dangerous, hard work, and I love it too!

I ended up having to buy wood this hear just didn’t have the time to get it cut, but since I live on ten acres of trees I will be cutting for next year

I am down to two bags of Perlesreuter so I opened a Sterneker Echt Fresco to stretch it out a little. Its been a long time since I tried it. Seems milder than the Perlesreuer and less grainy. Any thoughts on Echt Fresco?

Nachman, I hate to say anything bad about Poschl, because I do enjoy them alot, but I like the Sternecker even more I believe. It seems to be much more complex and melts down right when I get it in. The idea of Sternecker being a one man operation makes me more inclined to support him even more, too.

Also, I’ve been meaning to ask,…a good while back, I got some Bernard Brasil Feinst in a bulk bag from Rajeks and the majority of it looked almost to be like pellet food for livestock. It would still crumble down to a smooth powder when crushed between your fingers but I never saw snuff in that form before or after. Anyone ever encounter that?

@Bart: that sounds like it was dried out. Besides the oils, there are still natural amounts of water in schmalzlers. They can be rehydrated in a similar manner as other snuffs I’ve learned. If the oil part dries, then it can be more difficult. I don’t have any open Feinst at the moment, but Fresco is kind of pellet like. Nothing like the sizes you’re talking about, though. This sunken chat is now a free-form discussion? That’s kind of cool, like stream of consciousness snuff talk. Yeah! I wonder if Sternecker lets people visit and see his work?

Sternecker is a popular name in Munich, at least their beer hall was it seems years ago. There must be some way to track this little boy down. Red Star would probably know but I haven’t seen him on here recently. Btw, I’ve been stuffing hemp cord and pitch in the cracks of this thread to keep her afloat. She seems to sink a bit each day.

Oakum, Bart. You need to stuff the cracks with oakum. I’ve stuffed oakum in many a crack in my time (professionally of course Sternecker should not be too hard to find, his address telephone number is on the package. He’s in Straubing, not Munich.

Seems I 've been stuffing my cracks with the wrong material…a humble thanks, Xander. Truthfully, One of my side ambitions in 2011 is to build a dugout canoe the old fashioned way, with no power tools, maybe even burning and using clay to control the fire direction, filling it with water and adding boiling rocks, etc. I’ve heard sycamore is nice because of the cross graining, but hard to work. I will probably use cottonwood, which I should be able to get access to. You dealt with dugouts at all, Xander? (Not the pocket variety, haha)
