Hello! More than likely a very beginner question, though I have searched the forum with no luck, but I was looking for some advice on changing the snuff contents of a snuff box. I have a small wooden WoS snuff box currently containing WoS Chocolate Orange. What would be the implications of changing over to another snuff? Would I need to do anything with the box (cleaning etc)? Obviously I understand there could be cross-contamination between two opposing snuffs, however I intend on putting a mentholated snuff in this one as I have a second in the post on the way shortly to replace the Chocolate orange (I’ve decided I’d like to carry Aniseed Extra around for the next few days) so I presume that a mentholated snuff would pretty much kill any scent/remnants of the chocolate. Any help is much appreciated!!

If you’re putting Aniseed Extra in then yes, I think you’ll be fine. Just wipe out the inside and you’ll be ready to go. Beware, though - in my experience once you have used a wooden box for a mentholated snuff it takes a while for the menthol scent to disappear.

I suggest sealing the inside of the box and underside of the lid after cleaning out any remnants of the old snuff, With a fine pipe wax like Paragon. Let dry for a day and polish off excess. I heard of members using beeswax. SG aniseed had tainted a wooden box of mine. I fill it with baking soda and let it sit for a few days. Now I wax all my wooden boxes. They also work better and don’t swell as much.

Fantastic, thank you both for your help! I’ll grab some pipe wax for sure now.
